2012 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting Where the Top WRs Will Land
I am totally enamored with the top receivers in the 2012 NFL draft class.
They're big, physical, are amazing after the catch and have the ability to out-leap cornerbacks down the field on deep balls.
Justin Blackmon, Alshon Jeffery and Michael Floyd are the consensus top guys and the prospects I, too, would consider as the cream of the pass-catching crop.
Where will they likely land next April?
Justin Blackmon
1 of 4There are plenty of teams in dire need of some explosiveness on offense, and that's exactly what Blackmon brings to the field.
Although he's more of a possession guy than anything else, he does possess that big play ability and has been the most reliable receiver in college football over the last two seasons.
I wouldn't put him in the same category as A.J. Green or Calvin Johnson, because he's only 6'1'', but he'll enter the NFL with the strength and physical prowess to win on the fade routes, throws into tight windows, as well as press coverage.
He's got the skill set to be a Top 10 pick and a team that makes the most sense is the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jacksonville spent their first-round selection in 2011 on quarterback Blaine Gabbert and they need to surround him with talent.
Blackmon would be a fantastic start.
Alshon Jeffery
2 of 4Blackmon has had a far better statistical season than Jeffery, but I wouldn't be surprised if the South Carolina wideout is selected first.
He's 6'4'' and a built 240 pounds with tremendous athletic and jumping ability.
Jeffery can be a sure fire No. 1 wideout in the NFL instantly.
The Rams, much like the Jaguars have a young signal caller that needs weapons on the outside, and the combination of Brandon Lloyd and Jeffery would be more than enough to allow Sam Bradford to mature into an above average signal caller.
Michael Floyd
3 of 4Floyd will leave Notre Dame as one of the most decorated receivers in school history. At 6'3'', 225, he can physically dominate anyone who covers him and plays the game with a nasty streak.
I love that about him.
He's more than capable working underneath because he's such a load to take to the turf.
The Chicago Bears would be lucky to land him.
Floyd would be somewhat of a hometown kid and would be the perfect compliment to the speedy receiving contingent of Johnny Knox, Devin Hester and Earl Bennett currently in Chicago.
