2012 NFL Mock Draft: Why Robert Griffin III Will Be 2012 NFL Rookie of the Year

Peter EmerickDec 10, 2011

After Robert Griffin III wins the Heisman trophy this Saturday in NYC and the 2011 Alamo Bowl MVP trophy on December 29th, he will set his sights on another award that he is bound to win.

The next award in the sights of Robert Griffin is the 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. I'm going to tell you why he is a shoe in to win the award, aside from the fact that QB Andrew Luck won't play in 2012 when Peyton Manning returns to the Colts.

Robert Griffin will be drafted with the first pick of the Miami Dolphins, no matter where it lands in the first round.

Wherever the Miami Dolphins are in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft they will make sure they are able to pick up Robert Griffin because all owner Stephen Ross cares about is filling seats; Griffin is guaranteed to do that.

Once Griffin puts on his No. 10 white and teal Miami Dolphins jersey, the magic will begin.

If there is one thing that the 2011-12 NFL season taught, it is that a hybrid quarterback who can actually throw the ball, like Cam Newton, can excel in the NFL. He can even become one of the leagues most productive quarterbacks.

Robert Griffin has a quarterback style similar to Cam Newton's except for one major difference and it's not the fact that Griffin has an absolute cannon for an arm.  What separates Robert Griffin from other hybrid quarterbacks, like Cam Newton, is his unbelievable accuracy.

After his first five games of the 201 college football season, Robert Griffin earned an 80.74% completion percentage on 142 passes.  That kind of production came against solid competition with the like of TCU and Kansas State.

While the defenses Griffin faced in college are nowhere near the talent he will face in the NFL, there is no doubting that his ability to not only pass like Aaron Rodgers but also run like Cam Newton will help him bridge the gap between college and the NFL.

In 2011 Robert Griffin has amassed 644 yards on 161 carries and 9 touchdowns.  That kind of production will only continue in the NFL, even in his first year.

While the Dolphins don't have an incredible amount of talent to build around Robert Griffin aside from Brandon Marshal and Reggie Bush, who has caught fire as of late, they will undoubtedly try to acquire some talent in free agency to solidify their defense.

If the Dolphins can sign a wideout like DeSean Jackson, Dwayne Bowe or Vincent Jackson, there is no limit to how impressive their offense can be with Robert Griffin under center.

Another aspect of Griffin's game that he will easily carry over into the NFL is his calm, cool and collected demeanor; it might just be the most valuable part of his game.  Much like Newton, Robert Griffin has a poise that a lot of athletes, in general, lack.

In the 2011 season alone, Griffin led four 4th quarter comebacks and a few game-winning drives with ease.  In the face of adversity, Griffin always rises to the occasion and does so with ease. Griffin also plays the game with a toughness that few quarterbacks have, that inspire the players around them to play better and that is exactly what Griffin will do.

Robert Griffin, in his first NFL season, will make the talent on the Miami Dolphin's roster play better than they actually are.  WR Brandon Marshall will return to pro-bowl form and WR Davone Bess will be able to use his athleticism to propel his game to where it was in 2010.

Robert Griffin will make everyone around him better, he will win games, he will put up absolutely absurd numbers and that is exactly what will earn him the 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Prediction:

QB Robert Griffin Passing: 325 COMP, 455 ATT, 3,695 YDS, 23 TD, 7 INT

QB Robert Griffin Rushing: 102 ATT, 525 YDS, 7 TD

Miami Dolphins: 10-6 (3-3)
