Scott Coker Has No Issues with Booking Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate
Ronda Rousey has been very vocal in her desire to fight Strikeforce 135-pound women's champion, Miesha Tate.
Rousey has listed off several reasons for why the bout should happen with everything from their looks to the fight being a big money maker being used.
Tate responded by saying Rousey should get in line behind some more experienced challengers.
Until now, the main person responsible for the fight happening, Scott Coker, had remained silent.
MMAmania.com has the story that explains Coker's rationale behind his thinking.
""Here’s how I feel about the Ronda (Rousey) situation, if you look at a MMA fighter you can’t just look at how many MMA fights they’ve had. Because how many matches in judo, how many competitive martial arts matches has she had? When you look at a jiu-jitsu fighter, you might only have 5, 6, 7 fights, but he’s a thousand jiu-jitsu matches,” said Coker on Tuesday.
"
This method of thinking isn't new to Coker. Cung Le, who had most of his experience in Sanshou matches, faced Frank Shamrock for the middleweight title in only his sixth fight.
Coker has a deep respect for traditional mixed martial arts and that is one of the things that separates him from his UFC counterpart, Dana White.
If someone who was 4-0 in the UFC began asking for title shots, we would be privileged to another rant from White that would likely feature as many expletives as the word "crazy."
Although Rousey has ran through all of her competition thus far, some fans believe Tate is an entirely different animal that Rousey wouldn't be able to run through in under a minute.
Don't count Coker among that group of thinking.
""It’s not just media hype, Ronda’s the real deal,” said Coker. “She beat Julia Budd, who is a very seasoned fighter, had tremendous skills and tremendous experience, and Ronda went in there and did her thing."
"
Regardless of whether or not Rousey has earned a shot, the women's division is one of Strikeforce's last featured divisions and no doubt would benefit from the exposure a Rousey-Tate bout would provide.
