BCS Rankings: 5 BCS Top 25 Teams We Have No Faith in

Dan VastaDec 4, 2011

The final BCS rankings are officially out and so are all the bowl games. However, there are a select few teams that are playing their worst football right now.

These teams are in danger of losing their bowl games regardless of how much they are favored.

The following are five teams that are going nowhere but down right now as we head into bowl season.

Note: For a few teams I take their bowl game into consideration, but for a few particular teams I throw that out just because of how disappointing the season has been. Bare with me here :-)

No. 24 Texas Longhorns

1 of 5

The Longhorns are a ship that is almost completely wrecked this season and it will be interesting to see if they show up in the Holiday Bowl against a Cal team that will be playing close to home.

Texas said they would be able to slow down Robert Griffin III and instead they were throttled and buried alive.

Turnovers and injuries has cost them team dearly, but you really have to wonder where this team is right now with all rumors being shot down regarding Mack Brown's retirement.

No. 25 Auburn Tigers

2 of 5

Thank goodness the Auburn Tigers are not playing the Florida State Seminoles, otherwise they may not have had scored many, if any, touchdowns.

I do like Auburn to defeat Virginia in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl largely because Virginia is just 88th in scoring offense (23 PPG).

However, I do not have a ton of confidence in the Tigers with how poorly they have played this season.

They were nearly defeated by Utah State in the opener and then were fortunate enough to upset South Carolina. They possibly would not be bowling otherwise since it more than likely would have added to an extra loss down the road.

The good news for Auburn is that they are playing the Cavaliers and their defense will be able to use their speed as the Wahoos will attempt to have their way with a more talented Tigers squad.

No. 19 Houston Cougars

3 of 5

After a devastating loss to Southern Miss, do you think the Cougars will be able to bounce back against the Penn State Nittany Lions?

The PSU defense is capable and has been very physical, and we learned that Houston is not as effective against stout defenses.

We are about to find out if the Cougars' confidence is completely shot when they see defensive tackle Devon Still wreaking havoc on a Cougars offensive line that struggled mightily in the Conference USA championship.

The defense better find a way to stop the running game of Penn State or else it will be a miserable ending to the 2011 season for Kevin Sumlin, Case Keenum and company.

Some think that Sumlin will be gone in the near future, while Case Keenum will be gone with Patrick Edwards and Tyron Carrier among a slew of other Cougars.

Can they play their best against arguably their toughest competition of the season, save Southern Miss?

No. 14 Oklahoma Sooners

4 of 5

The Sooners are struggling mightily right now and it may not look good against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Wow, wait—the Iowa Hawkeyes? It may sound bizarre, but Kirk Ferentz always has his squad playing its best towards the postseason and Iowa carries a three-win postseason streak.

The Insight Bowl is a major disappointment for the preseason top-ranked team in the country, so we have to wonder if Stoops can rally the troops against an Iowa team that will be playing as if its their Super Bowl.

No. 8 Kansas State Wildcats

5 of 5

Go ahead, call me a hater or jealous, but I really do NOT like the Wildcats' chances in this game.

If I had a vote for the Coach of the Year it would not be Les Miles, but Bill Snyder. As far as most improved players are concerned, Kansas State's signal-caller Collin Klein really should be the obvious choice.

The Big 12 has proven to be a bit of a fraud at times this season, however. Teams like Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri and Texas A&M have not done anything down the stretch of the season to make you think Kansas State is as good as their record indicates.

Don't get me wrong, I had the Wildcats in line for a BCS bowl behind Boise State, as they did beat the Baylor Bears. However, they struggled at home against a scrappy 6-5 (now 6-6) Iowa State team only known for their upset win over then-undefeated Oklahoma State.

Collin Klein and the running game is fabulous, but they have one major weakness: PASS DEFENSE!

Well, at least Bobby Petrino is not a pass-happy type of coach, and luckily Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson isn't good enough to hurt the Kansas State defense (sarcasm alert).

Uh oh!
