Packers vs. Giants: Halftime Observations for the Packers

Brad ReadDec 4, 2011

Wow, the Giants got off to an amazing start with a 67-yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Travis Beckum.

As expected, the Packers answered with a nice drive of their own, ending with a Rodgers-to-Finley touchdown pass.
We head into halftime with Green Bay winning 21-17 over the New York Giants.

Here are four key stats that demonstrate what the Packers need to do in order to win this game.

1. 46 Rushing Yards

As good as Aaron Rodgers is, the Packers need to establish a running game. So far, the best run threat has been Rodgers on broken plays. Grant and Starks need to get something going in the second half so the Packers can set up play action and connect on deep plays.

2. 7 Points Off Turnovers

Clay Matthews had a sweet pick-six in the first half that gave the Pack a quick seven points. Unfortunately, Rodgers made a careless mistake and threw a costly turnover that resulted in seven points for the Giants. If the Packers win the turnover battle in the game, I guarantee they will win this ball game.

3. Aaron Rodgers 13/23, 2 TD, 1 INT

We've come to expect perfection from Aaron Rodgers every time he puts on the pads. Rodgers has had a decent game overall, but he needs to develop some consistency in the second half. The first half ended in classic Rodgers fashion, with him scrambling and making great decisions with his arm.

4. Eli Manning 179 Passing Yards

Eli has been killing the Packers secondary. He has been able to find his dangerous receivers whenever he wants. The Packers need to get pressure on Eli and force him into bad throws. Furthermore, the defensive backs have to cover more effectively. If the Pack want to stay undefeated, they need to contain Manning and the Giants offense.
