Bulls Rumors: Arron Afflalo and the Best SGs to Pair with Derrick Rose
It's no secret that the Chicago Bulls need a quality shooting guard to help take some off the scoring burden off of the reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose.
The Bulls will target a shooting guard this free-agency period, and there are several quality players to consider. Several of them, however, are restricted free agents, which means the Bulls can have any offer matched by the team whose player they try to sign.
Let's look at the best fits at shooting guard for the Bulls and Derrick Rose.
1. Arron Afflalo
The Denver Nuggets guard won't bring a ton of offense to the Chicago Bulls, but he is an elite defender who can shut down many of the stop scorers in the NBA.
Afflalo did average 12.6 points per game last season for the Nuggets, and he stretched the floor with his good outside shooting.
Chicago would be smart to look at signing Afflalo, because he fits in with the defensive-minded approach Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau has of his team, and he will add some scoring.
He's also a restricted free agent.
2. Nick Young
Washington Wizards restricted free agent shooting guard Nick Young is a fabulous scorer who improved his points-per-game average by 8.8 points last season from 2009-10.
Young drives to the basket very well and is not afraid to go into the paint and finish against much bigger players.
His shooting range is good, and opponents must respect it. When he's hot from the outside, he pulls the defense to the perimeter, and then, with his great quickness, he goes by them and drives to the basket.
Young won't add a ton of defense to the Bulls, but he would be a significant scoring upgrade and provide the team with a lot more athleticism.
3. JJ Barea
Dallas Mavericks guard JJ Barea was a big reason the team beat the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals last season, and the small guard would fit in well with Chicago this season.
Barea has the competitiveness and energy that really gets hits teammates amped in big situations.
He can drive to the basket and finish over much taller and stronger defenders, and he can stretch the floor with his consistent outside shooting. Barea also won't hurt the Bulls at the defensive end of the floor.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban will probably try to re-sign him, but Chicago offers Barea a new and exciting challenge for the future of his career.
