NBA Rumors: Denver Nuggets and More Under-the-Radar Landing Spots for Glen Davis
Glen Davis isn't among the most highly-touted free agents of this offseason's crop, but he's a solid contributor that took a big step in the right direction last season. The Boston Herald reports that he hasn't ruled out a return to the Celtics, but lists several teams as possible spots where he could start.
Here are three teams that most people probably wouldn't consider contenders for his services that could make a serious run at Big Baby.
Denver Nuggets
Nene could be on his way out of Denver via free agency, which would open up a spot for Davis. The Nuggets have plenty of cap room to utilize, and they could benefit from a big body underneath since Kenyon Martin and Wilson Chandler are playing in China.
It will be interesting to see how the team performs this season, its first without Carmelo Anthony. They banded together well after the trade last season, but their depth chart is on the weaker side right now. Perhaps adding Davis and another free agent or two will solve that problem.
Detroit Pistons
Detroit has a plethora of guards, including rookie Brandon Knight, that will be battling for playing time, which should mean that portion of its rotation is set. That means the Pistons will likely look to add some depth in the frontcourt once the lockout officially ends.
Greg Monroe and Jonas Jerebko are both a work in progress, while Ben Wallace is nearing the end of his career. Davis would probably get his wish of finding a starting spot and wouldn't have much trouble eclipsing the career-high mark of 29 minutes per game he set last season.
New Orleans Hornets
All of the speculation surrounding the Hornets concerns point guard Chris Paul and whether the team will trade him at some point before the deadline. Signing Davis certainly wouldn't offset a potential trade, but he'd be a nice addition nevertheless.
New Orleans has Emeka Okafor at center, but its power forward spot is far less certain. David Andersen and Jason Smith are listed in that spot for now, with David West testing free agent waters. Big Baby could step right in and fill the PF void for his home-state team.
