Bowl Projections: How Michigan and Stanford Will Clash in the Sugar Bowl
The final standings of the BCS will leave us with a stunning surprise as the Michigan Wolverines will find themselves in the Top 14.
They will get picked, because of their massive fan base and because of their explosive offense led by quarterback Denard Robinson. With their selection for a BCS Bowl Game it makes the most sense for them to face another At-Large team in the Stanford Cardinal.
Both teams will find themselves facing each other, as Pac-12 Champion Oregon and the Big Ten’s Champion Wisconsin will meet in the Rose Bowl. The Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State will meet At-Large Houston in the Fiesta Bowl. While Big East Champion West Virginia will meet ACC Champion Virginia Tech in The Orange Bowl.
That leaves the Sugar Bowl open for two At-Large bids, since the SEC Champion LSU will be playing Alabama in the BCS Championship Game.
Stanford will be chosen for the Sugar Bowl, as they will finish in the Top 5 of the final BCS Standings. The Cardinal had an amazing year and if it wasn’t for their only loss of the season against Oregon, they would be playing for the BCS National Championship.
Instead, Stanford will make their way to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl, as quarterback Andrew Luck will be center stage to show off why he is the best quarterback in college football.
For Michigan, they finished off a great year last week by defeating Ohio State, 40-34. They end the year at 10-2 with two bad games this year that resulted in their losses at Michigan State and at Iowa.
This team under first year head coach Brady Hoke has showed a grit and toughness that escaped them when Rich Rodriguez was the head coach. This year the offense is what people are talking about, but the defense were the real winners this year. They did an amazing job at holding opponents to only 17 points per game. That impressive stat helped the Wolverines finish at ninth in the NCAA in points against.
Stanford is a lock for a BCS Bowl Game. Michigan however has to have somethings fall in place for them to make a BCS Game. Let’s hope that Michigan finishes in the Top 14 of the final BCS Standings and we get to see this Stanford vs. Michigan game in the 2012 Sugar Bowl.
