Tim Tebow: Where Does Broncos Passer Rank Among NFL QBs after Latest Victory?

David DanielsNov 27, 2011

All he does is win, win, win no matter what.

The Denver Broncos have done it again led by their ESPN-created savior Tim Tebow.  At one point in the season, the Broncos were 1-5 and wondering who they should select between Matt Barkley, Landry Jones and Robert Griffin III next April.  Now, Denver is 6-5 after a 5-1 run with Tebow under center...or in shotgun.

After the Detroit Lions embarrassed Tebow back in Week 8, his critics were louder than ever.  Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post even went on to call the former Florida Gator the worst quarterback in the entire NFL.  Kiszla has without a doubt been proven wrong over the past month and Tebow’s success ignites the question: where does he stand compared to other starting quarterbacks?

Statistically, Tebow doesn’t even match up with Tarvaris Jackson in the ability to march the football down the field.  Efficiency, though, must be taken into consideration.  In the Broncos’ last five wins, Tebow hasn’t turned the ball over once and he’s accounted for eight offensive scores.

Of course, if you include the Lions game, his touchdown-to-turnover ratio declines greatly.  Still, Tebow has made great strides since that disaster.

Handed a powerful running game and strong defense, how many other quarterbacks would you rather have than Tebow?  Obviously names like Aaron Rogers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger don’t deserve their names to be said in the same breath.  Where such a discussion gets interesting, though, is when Tebow is compared to quarterbacks like Michael Vick and Philip Rivers.

First instinct says that Vick and Rivers are the superior passers, but are they really the superior quarterbacks?  Vick and Rivers have far more talent around them than Tebow has, yet Tebow has been able to put Ws in the win column, unlike the two Pro Bowlers.

In reality, it’ll be impossible to fairly rank quarterbacks until the end of the 2011 campaign, but one thing is for certain, Tebow definitely won’t be last.  Right Hoge?
