NBA Free Agents 2011: Big Men Who Will Make an Immediate Impact on New Teams
With the return of the NBA, it's now time to shift our focus to what's sure to be a crazy free-agency period.
So, let's start by taking a look at the men we notice first: the big men.
These are all players that would step into a team and make an immediate impact. There isn't a single team in the league that couldn't use any of these guys.
Chandler has battled either injuries or inconsistency throughout his entire career. Still, when he's on the court, he makes an impact. His career averages of 8.8 points and 8.3 rebounds aren't particularly sexy, but he's not showing any signs of slowing down.
As a matter of fact, his 10.1 points per game last season was the second highest total of Chandler's career.
His size makes him a strong force in the paint. He's the kind of player to go into a game late and rack up the hard points and boards. Big men aren't quite as dominant in the NBA anymore. Chandler's not at the elite level, but he would make a big impact on an elite team.
Glen Davis
While we're on the subject of ugly points and boards, let's take a look at Davis. In reality, Boston needs to find a way to bring him back.
If they don't, then a new team will get a player who's steadily improved throughout his career. In just fewer than 30 minutes a game last season, Davis racked up 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds.
With only 31 career starts, Davis can easily come off of the bench, which makes him a fit anywhere. You can never have enough big men. As far as big men coming off of the bench, Davis is about as good as they come.
David West
If you're looking for a good man to come in and play power forward or center, West is the best option. In each of the last six seasons, he's averaged better than 17 points and five rebounds. In all but one of those seasons, he's played in 75 or more games.
Additionally, his numbers show absolutely no sign of slowing down.
Any team with a strong perimeter presence would greatly benefit from West's services. He can make a bad team good, a good team great and a great team a champion.
West's impact is just immeasurable. There's very little he does poorly.
