NBA Rumors: Why Dwight Howard Will Never Become an L.A. Laker

Patrick ClarkeNov 26, 2011

Despite the harsh reality that Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard isn't long for the Magic Kingdom, he won't be playing in Hollywood anytime soon.

Last May's bitter playoff exit for the Los Angeles Lakers proves they are a mess of a situation, despite having some of the world's most gifted talents.

The two-time defending champions are hardly the ideal squad Howard should want to play with in 2011-12 or any season in the near future.

Kobe Bryant is a shot-maker of course, but he's also a shot-taker who would forget about his 6'11" friend in the paint on far too many occasions throughout the course of a game.

Also, big man Pau Gasol fits perfectly in the Lakers' current triangle offense, and has the finesse game that Howard lacks.

Sure, for the Lakers, acquiring Howard should be the No. 1 goal this shortened offseason and every offseason moving forward, but Superman would be wise to stay away.

He's never going to be the man in L.A. as long as Kobe is lacing 'em up, and even alone we discover that Howard works much better as a sidekick to a play-making baller.

Even Hedo Turkoglu out-shined Howard in Orlando. Why? Because he could do more things and had more versatility.

Howard isn't going to touch the ball every possession like Chris Paul, and when you don't touch the ball you fall asleep defensively.

When you're alseep on defense your biggest strength—rebounding—is negated.

Howard isn't fit for Los Angeles, no matter how bad the Lakers want him.
