Week 12 Start 'Em Sit 'Em: Mario Manningham and Sleeper Receivers to Start

Daniel O'BrienNov 23, 2011

At this point in the NFL fantasy football season, most owners have a good handle on which wide receivers are fantasy studs, such as Roddy White or Greg Jennings. But who are the sleeper wideouts? Which role-playing pass-catchers are poised for great weeks?

In order to maximize your receiving corps, it's important to know which "B list" receivers have the favorable matchups and ideal situations.

Looking to pick up some last-minute receiving talent? Here is a list of sleeper wide receivers worth starting this week.

Denarius Moore

1 of 7

Carson Palmer has improved each week since arriving in Oakland, and the Raiders offense will only get better as they continue their quest for the postseason.

I expect wide receiver Denarius Moore to bounce back this week and see plenty of targets from Palmer against Chicago. Darrius Heyward-Bey's neck issues may hinder his performance or even keep him out of the game against Chicago this weekend, so Moore will be key to Oakland's success.

The Bears have given up lots of yardage through the air this season, so if Palmer can exploit them, Moore could be in for a solid fantasy day.

Week 12 projection: Moore will catch seven passes for 80 yards.

Plaxico Burress

2 of 7

Plaxico Burress has scored four touchdowns in his last four games, and there's a good chance he'll find the end zone a time or two against the Buffalo Bills.

While Burress doesn't see a ton of targets per game, Mark Sanchez has improved his chemistry with him and is looking for him in the red zone more often. Last week against a tough Denver defense, Burress still caught four passes for 64 yards. He'll do much better this week against Buffalo.

The Bills' red zone defense leaves much to be desired, and Burress is a great red-zone option for Sanchez.

Week 12 projection: Burress will catch six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Laurent Robinson

3 of 7

Laurent Robinson has become a more integral piece of the Dallas Cowboys offense, and he has scored all five of his touchdowns in the last four weeks.

Dallas' passing game has improved significantly throughout this season, thanks to the development of Tony Romo. Robinson has been a beneficiary of this progress, and you can expect him to command a bunch of targets on Thanksgiving Day.

Don't expect freakishly good numbers because Miami's defense is respectable. But Robinson should still have a solid game.

Week 12 projection: Robinson will haul in five catches for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Mario Manningham

4 of 7

Good offenses have been able to pile up points against the Saints, so if the Giants can get back on track, we could be in for a shootout.

Mario Manningham's numbers took a dip in last week's loss to Philadelphia, but Eli Manning should look to Manningham more this week to revive the offense. Plus, he could see more passes because of Jake Ballard's elbow issues.

The Giants have been successful when Manningham catches four to six passes per game, keeping the offense balanced. Look for them to get back to their game plan against New Orleans.

Week 12 projection: Manningham will catch five passes for 80 yards.

Jabar Gaffney

5 of 7

Rex Grossman's reappearance as the Redskins' starting quarterback has directly influenced an uptick in production from Jabar Gaffney.

After a subpar game against Miami, Grossman found a rhythm last week against Dallas. He was able to settle back in as an effective leader of Washington's offense, and Gaffney was richly rewarded. Gaffney had seven catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.

While we can't expect that kind of production every week, he is worth starting because a handful of passes will be coming his way.

Week 12 projection: Gaffney will have six catches for 80 yards and a touchdown against Seattle.

Nate Washington

6 of 7

Over the last three weeks, the Tennessee Titans offense has been playing better as a whole, and Nate Washington has been a big part of that success.

Last week, he had a phenomenal game against Atlanta, lighting up the Falcons for nine catches, 115 yards and two touchdowns. If he's still available in your league, pick him up and start him as your second or third wide receiver.

Washington should have another productive outing this week as the Titans face the second-rate pass defense of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Week 12 projection: Washington will have seven catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Deion Branch

7 of 7

It's hard to call anyone on the New England Patriots offense a sleeper, but Deion Branch is flying under the radar.

With Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski grabbing all the headlines, everyone forgets that Super Bowl XXXIX MVP Deion Branch is a great option for Tom Brady.

New England's offense has found its groove the last couple games, and they will look to continue their success against Philadelphia. Don't expect video game numbers from Brady and Branch, but he will get frequent targets and some decent yardage.

Week 12 projection: Branch will catch five passes for 60 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles.
