Kobe Bryant Won't Need NBA Money to Pay Bills Thanks to Bankrupt Power Balance
Kobe Bryant does not even need to collect checks from the Los Angeles Lakers this NBA season now that he is owed $400,000 from a bankrupt Power Balance, according to the Orange County Register.
The NBA lockout will not stop Bryant from making money, as well as other top superstars who are fortunate enough to have lucrative endorsement deals.
Bryant is not an official endorser of the the company's bracelets, though he has worn them on the court many times.
Bryant could literally make money off anything. Any product he endorses will sell, and any piece of clothing he wears and endorses will be the next "cool" thing to have.
Bryant is similar to Michael Jordan in the sense that he is so marketable. If he says you should buy a product, many people will, no matter how useless it is. Bryant could tell you to wear the ugliest shoes ever made and people would go out and buy it the first day it would be available for sale.
Bryant's Lakers teammate Lamar Odom is a minority investor in Power Balance, which makes this even more cool.
Maybe Bryant can help his friend out and just let this $400,000 go.
Does Bryant really need this money? Absolutely not—Bryant has made well over $100 million from his basketball career and many more millions in off-the-court endorsements.
Maybe Odom can just take Bryant out to dinner a few times or go on a nice vacation and call it even. It does not look like the NBA is going to resume play anytime soon, so they might as well take advantage of the free time and live life to the fullest.
