WWE Survivor Series 2011 Results: What's Next for John Cena and The Rock?

Imaan JalaliNov 20, 2011

WWE Survivor Series 2011 has come and gone, leaving an everlasting impression on the WWE fans.

The Rock impressed with an assortment of moves, in addition to his patented repertoire, seeming more athletic and crisper than he's ever looked in the ring.

His "never before, never again" alliance with John Cena proved to be a fruitful one when a "People's Elbow" put The Miz (and R-Truth) down for the three-count.

The aftermath between "The People's Champion" and Cena at the 25th annual fall classic, though, is what will be highlighted in the hype packages leading up to WrestleMania 28.

Following a "pose-off" between the two WWE headliners, Cena turned his back to The Rock, which prompted the latter to "Rock-Bottom" the former into oblivion.

That wasn't the worst of what would happen to the befallen leader of the "Cenation," however.

As Cena lurched outside of the ring, "The Great One" added insult to injury by unleashing a disdainful stream of spit towards his WrestleMania opponent from the center of the squared circle.

John Cena may have decided to take the high road and disappear into the backstage area on his own terms, but Survivor Series 2011 only marked the beginning of the winding road that is set to end on April 1, 2012.

Let's look at 10 scenarios between The Rock and John Cena that may come to fruition between now and then:

John Cena Gets Angry About the Way He's Been Mistreated by The Rock

1 of 10

Cena was the recipient of the ultimate sign of disrespect at Survivor Series when The Rock spat at him.

In spite of the way the crowd treated him in New York city, and the way The Rock berated him during and after the contest, John Cena kept his cool.

When "The Great One" decided to "Rock-Bottom" his partner after a successful match, Cena rolled out of the ring, knowing he was cheap-shotted.

What came next, though, was an attempt to humiliate the former 10-time WWE champion, who witnessed saliva being chucked in his general direction.

Suffice to say, Cena has every reason to get angry in an attempt to regain his dignity.

What does that entail?

Perhaps, John Cena gets a little hardcore, violently decking every heel who gets in his way.

John Cena Rediscovers His Hip Hop Side

2 of 10

Since returning to the WWE, The Rock has made living by poking fun at John Cena's character.

In response, what the leader of the "Cenation" may be forced to do is mockingly impersonate The Rock or go on a rapping rampage in which he verbally undresses "The Great One."

Cena's hip-hop side must become a part of his persona, not a one-time flashback.

It might even behoove Cena to recruit Booker T—who has been adamant in his support of him—to help the West Newbury-native re-tap into the street-side credibility that has eluded him for so long.

Perhaps, the master of the "Spinaroonie" knows something we don't when he alludes to Cena eventually getting the best of The Rock.

John Cena Crashes a Film Set to Surprise Attack The Rock

3 of 10

Perhaps, John Cena gets so fed up with the way he's being criticized by The Rock in every promo that he infiltrates a film set to ambush "The Great One," who is getting ready for his close-up.

Can you imagine Cena, in Marine fatigues and black soot on his face, pretending to be one of the GI's on The Rock's current film, GI Joe: Retaliation?

For instance, the scene might call for The Rock to get blindsided by an enemy trooper, who goes against script and continues to wallop on Dwayne Johnson, the actor, even after the director has yelled, "cut."

Of course, the trooper is revealed to be Cena, who no longer "cares" about crossing any line or making things "personal."

John Cena, Sr. Becomes His Son's Manager

4 of 10

Animosity between The Rock and John Cena might get so heated that Cena Sr. gets involved.

This isn't a stretch considering he was on Raw this past Monday, haranguing the fans for wishing ill will on his son.

An interesting dynamic would be to witness Cena Sr. become a quasi-heel manager for his son—the prototypical babyface.

The older Cena would get things off his chest the younger one would like to but can't.

Bad-mouthing the male fans, telling the "truth" and throwing "inside" jabs would pose no problem for Cena Sr., who would eventually get his comeuppance at the hands of The Rock.

Mick Foley Takes John Cena's Side

5 of 10

On last Monday's Raw, Mick Foley did everything he could to get members of the WWE Universe to accept John Cena in an effort to make peace with The Rock but to no avail.

In fact, one-half of "The Rock and Sock Connection" sauntered to the ring and "Rock-Bottomed" the "sock" half of a bygone tag team.

"The Hardcore Legend" was none too pleased to receive physical harm when all he tried to do was be a mediator between the two wrestlers who are headed for a collision course at WrestleMania.

As a result, Foley may be inclined to take Cena's side against a man—The Rock—who took his return to the WWE for granted.

For all we know, Mrs. Foley's baby boy will be compelled to teach Cena a hardcore lesson or two in order to take down "The Great One" from his pedestal.

CM Punk Joins The Rock-Cena Fray

6 of 10

After vanquishing Alberto Del Rio at Survivor Series, CM Punk became the new WWE champion.

If the "Straight Edge" superstar can keep the gold until WrestleMania, "The Best In The World" might not be willing to be overshadowed by The Rock and John Cena.

After all, Punk does have history with Cena and has made some sly comments about "Dwayne" on Raw that might become amplified in the months and weeks leading up to the WWE's grandest stage.

It's possible we'll see CM Punk's inclusion in the Cena-Rock feud, culminating in a triple-threat affair for the WWE championship at Sun Life Stadium.

The Rock Eliminates John Cena from The Royal Rumble

7 of 10

Here's a hypothetical scenario:

As The Royal Rumble draws near, the world heavyweight title is vacated after controversy involving Mark Henry and The Big Show at TLC 2011.

Thus, John Cena decides to throw his hat into the mix, amongst 39 other WWE superstars, who will vie to not acquire a title shot at WrestleMania 28, but become the champion at the conclusion of the Royal Rumble match.

After 60 minutes of action, Cena is one of two remaining in the ring, along with Zack Ryder.

As Cena is about to eliminate the Long Island "Broski" to raucous jeers, The Rock runs into the ring from the crowd and throws his WrestleMania opponent out of the ring like a "piece of trash."

As one can imagine, the tension between Cena and The Rock would intensify to a hate-filled degree.

The Rock Turns Heel

8 of 10

It's doubtful we'll see anyone turn to the dark side, as both competitors are likely to head into WrestleMania as babyfaces, but it would be intriguing nontheless.

One might argue it will be challenging for "The Great One" to entice the crowd to boo him when he's already getting vociferously cheered on every occasion he's assaulted Cena.

However, if there is anyone who can do it, it's The Rock, who revolutionized wrestling with his all too brief run as a "Hollywood Jabroni" in the spring of 2003.

The return of "The Rock Concert," the Hollywood icon's trusty guitar and some risque rhymes aimed at the audience would probably garner the desired heel reaction.

John Cena Turns Heel

9 of 10

He probably won't, but John Cena has every reason to turn his back on the fans, who have chosen a "Johnny-come-lately" act in The Rock over him.

The embodiment of "Hustle, Loyalty and Respect" would be justified simply because he has attended, literally, every WWE event at the cost of his health and longevity in comparison to The Rock, who wrestles one match and is heralded as the second coming.

The best heel turns, too, are the ones that can be rationalized with easy-to-discern evidence and logic.

If the fans don't care about John Cena, then why should he continue pandering to them—including the women and children who have, incidentally, taken a liking to The Rock?

More of the Same

10 of 10

The most likely scenario is that we won't see anything outlandish or eye-popping in the months leading up to the big event.

The WWE writers will just find more ways to play up the tension between the two with back-and-forth insults, the occasional finishing move against one another, in addition to lots of menacing stares.

Just like the end of Survivor Series 2011, which seemed underwhelming compared to expectations, The Rock-Cena rivalry will follow a pattern where each man takes turns taking the upper-hand on the microphone and in the ring.

That means more comments about The Rock cutting promos "via satellite," John Cena being a "fruity pebble," and overall, a myriad of Twitter references.
