BCS Standings 2011: 10 Reasons Why Nobody Wants to See an LSU-Alabama Rematch
With the latest BCS standings out, the all-too familiar duo of LSU and Alabama are once again sitting atop the rankings.
If both teams win out they will play each other once again for the BCS National Championship on Jan. 9 in New Orleans.
While some may want to see that rematch, many others are dreading it.
Here are 10 reasons why nobody wants to see a rematch between LSU and Alabama for the BCS National Championship.
They Are from the Same Conference
1 of 10How does the old saying go?
"If you can't win your conference, you can't play for a national championship."
Alabama is not even good enough to win the West Division of the SEC so why in the world should they play for a national championship.
Your guess is as good as mine.
There Is No Offense
2 of 10When the Big Ten plays a 9-6 game, the league is decades behind the times. The teams are slow and un-athletic when they struggle to score points.
But, when the SEC plays a close game, the defenses are amazing.
Either way, nobody in the country wants to see a 9-6 national championship game.
Remember the Connecticut-Butler basketball national championship?
There Are Two Undefeated Teams
3 of 10Houston...we have a problem.
Is everybody forgetting about the Houston Cougars out of Conference USA?
The Cougars, along with LSU are the only two undefeated teams in the country so why not pit them against each other?
While they have obviously not played the schedule LSU has, they have won their last six games by at least 30 points each.
They Have Already Played
4 of 10LSU went into Tuscaloosa and took down the Crimson Tide already this year.
Alabama has had their chance, and it is time to give someone else a shot.
If Alabama cannot even beat LSU at home, what gives them the right to think they should get another shot at the title?
I guess the BCS does.
Either way, it would be a travesty if these two teams have to play again.
Too Much SEC to Handle on One Night
5 of 10Unlike many schools who chant the name of their institution, the teams from the SEC love to shout out the name of their conference.
While every fan in the stands will be from the SEC and will love chanting about their conference, those watching would probably just love to tune away at the sound of that chant, "SEC, SEC, SEC."
Remember how much you hated the old Florida St. chant?
This one just might be worse.
What If Alabama Wins
6 of 10If LSU and Alabama meet and the Crimson Tide come out on top, then what would lead anybody to believe they should be ranked higher than LSU?
After all, they split their two games, and LSU beat them on the road.
That would just create more trouble than it is worth.
Nobody Likes Nick Saban or Les Miles
7 of 10Outside of the great states of Alabama and Louisiana, there is not much love for Nick Saban or Les Miles.
These coaches are actually pretty much universally disliked across the entire country and knowing for a fact that one of them is certainly going to win the national championship would even make some die-hards sick to their stomach.
Maybe even sick enough that they couldn't watch and who wants that?
Kickers Should Not Determine the National Championship
8 of 10With the lack of offense these two teams will produce against each other, the game will likely come down to kicking, and that should not decide a national championship.
The kickers were the only players on the field who could score in the regular season game and watching kickers decide the national champion will not only be boring, but ridiculous.
The Country Would Never Hear the End of It
9 of 10As if the rest of the nation doesn't have to listen to the fans from the SEC enough.
If the national championship was comprised of two teams from the league, the rest of the country would never hear the end of it.
That would be tough to handle before, during and after the game, no matter who won.
We Want Points
10 of 10Some of the greatest national championships in recent years were those that were high scoring.
Who can forget Vince Young running the ball in for the winning score against USC in a dramatic shootout to win the 2006 national championship?
Fans want to see points and if these two teams play, and they will not get to see that.
