UFC 139 Results: What's Next for the Main Card Winners
Dan Henderson already had his legendary status solidified before coming back to the UFC to take on Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, but the 40-year-old veteran had one of the best fights of his career and of all time when he defeated the Brazilian after five rounds of light-heavyweight action.
The unanimous decision went to Henderson, who walked away with three 48-47 scorecards. Rua took the last two, including a dominant fifth round that could have been scored a 10-8.
In the co-main event, Wanderlei Silva defeated Cung Le in the second round by strikes.
Other main card winners include Martin Kampmann, Urijah Faber and Stephan Bonnar. This is what's next for them.
Stephan Bonnar Def. Kyle Kingsbury by Unanimous Decision
1 of 5Ultimate Fighter 1 finalist Stephan Bonnar earned a dominant unanimous decision over Kyle Kingsbury, and a chorus of boos for the first time in his UFC career.
His wrestling-oriented game plan didn't suit the fans' expectations of MMA's bloodiest warrior, but he did walk away with what could have been his easiest victory in a long time.
Another winner on the undercard may be in line to face "The American Psycho" in Ryan Bader, who knocked out Jason Brilz in a little over a minute to break a two-fight losing streak.
Martin Kampmann Def. Rick Story by Unanimous Decision
2 of 5Martin Kampmann got a hard-fought victory over Rick Story after three rounds of welterweight action.
The Danish fighter had a tough first round, but he did come back in the second and third to bloody up his opponent and use his technical striking and takedowns to win the decision.
Kampmann could arguably be on a five-fight win streak right now, but two controversial decisions have kept him from being on it. A possible fight with Thiago Alves could be a fan-friendly fight that everyone would want to see.
Urijah Faber Def. Brian Bowles by Submission (Guillotine Choke) in Round 2
3 of 5Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber got an impressive submission win over former WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles.
Bowles' only loss heading into the fight was to Dominick Cruz, who Faber was last seen losing to at UFC 132.
With the second-round submission victory, Faber sets himself up for the rubber match with Cruz on a possible UFC on Fox card in January or sometime early next year.
Wanderlei Silva Def. Cung Le by TKO in Round 2
4 of 5Wanderlei Silva saved his career after knocking out former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le in the second round.
Silva survived getting dropped in the first and came back to stop the former Sanshou champion with strikes shortly before the end of the second.
With the win, Silva guarantees himself a spot on the February card in Japan, and an opponent that could suit him well would be Alan Belcher. Both are primarily strikers, and it would make that fight a nice addition to an already great card.
Dan Henderson Def. Mauricio Rua by Unanimous Decision
5 of 5Dan Henderson picked up his fourth consecutive victory in a row after defeating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in the main event, but it wasn't easy.
Henderson gave up the last two rounds and had to rely on the success he had early to secure the unanimous-decision victory.
Many are calling this one of the best fights of all time, and if a rematch doesn't happen, a fight with the winner of Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida is something Henderson could easily get.
