NFL Power Rankings: San Francisco 49ers and Frauds That'll Be Exposed

Donald WoodNov 19, 2011

With the 2011 NFL season flying by, there are teams sitting towards the top of the Week 11 ESPN Power Rankings that don’t belong where they are.

Teams like the San Francisco 49ers and others have taken the easy road to this point, but will only be exposed as the frauds they truly are.

The following teams will crumble under the immense pressure their records and talent have put upon them.

San Francisco 49ers—At No. 2 in the rankings, the San Francisco 49ers are rated way too high. The reason they are a fraud is because of the inaccurate Alex Smith.

While it’s true that the 49ers have one of the stingiest run defenses in the league, giving up a league best of just 73.2 yards per game, their mediocre secondary is the 26th best in the NFL.

We also can’t forget the knee injury to star running back Frank Gore and the pressure that a bad running game will put on the weak shoulders of Smith.

Chicago Bears—Four consecutive wins in the NFL is a big deal, but it’s not worthy of catapulting a mediocre team to No. 5 in the NFL.

The Chicago Bears defense is as overrated as it could possibly be. The aging veterans on that squad are getting beat left and right, but it’s the 29th ranked pass defense that should have the Bears fans concerned.

Bears fans should also be concerned with the safety of their star quarterback Jay Cutler with the poor play of his offensive line and the injury to first-round pick lineman Gabe Carimi. Times will be tough in Chi-town.

Houston Texans—Matt Leinart will not lead the Houston Texans on some great Super Bowl run this season, you can be sure of that.

While you can’t deny just how amazing the combination of the Texans offensive line and Arian Foster has been and just how good that defense can be, Leinart stinks.

In six seasons at the NFL level, Leinart has only started 17 games and amassed a meager 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. This situation has first-round bust written all over it.
