Arsenal Can Win Ugly Too

Ashish WesleyFeb 14, 2008

Another post coming in to you from Mangalore, oh dear Arseurs. The internet cafe here is not too congenial so I'll keep what I have to say to a bare minimum. Let's get stuck in then innit.

Ryan Giggs, who I have to admit is the one player in a Man U shirt I have any respect for, says that Fergie's side hold an advantage over Arsenal in the title race because they can win ugly.

"It's always been the United way to try to win with good football, but our ability to win ugly as well has been a trademark of the last 15 years or so," says Giggs. "In the majority of games, we are going to try to play attractive football and score lots of goals, but we also need the added steel for games like the ones at Liverpool this season and last."

Well, as much as anyone given a choice would avoid winning "ugly" I think I know what he means, as I'm sure all of you do. However, I think that this was a allegation that could have been tabled at us last season.

This season it holds as much water as a paper bag. We have shown this season that we can indeed score and win without having to walk the ball into the back of the net. This is coupled with the steel and determination on display accounts for a new Arsenal if you will.

Abou Diaby speaks ahead of the FA Cup clash Against the Manky bunch on Saturday saying:

"I think we want to play well in every competition whether it's the FA Cup, the Champions League, or the League. We want to win all of them because we are a big club and we want to win trophies. This Saturday is very important to us.

"Maybe a win will give us a psychological advantage. We just want to give our best and win the game."

That's exactly what I was thinking. If we could do ManUSA in at home it will be a huge advantage, will break them down somehow. This should facilitate us taking the upper hand in the prem. It should be tectonic clash, they will be ever so fired up!

Remember it's just one of the big games coming up. After Old Trafford on Saturday, the might of Milan come by to Ashburton Grove, midweek in the CL.

One of the men who displays the silken touch here at Arsenal speaks about the man whose name is on every Gooners' lips at the moment. The Belarussian said of his Togolese frontman:

"He's in fantastic form. It's great for him and great for the team."

"Now with important games such as Manchester United and AC Milan and others coming up, it's ideal to have a striker who is taking his chances whichever way they come and showing such all-round ability.

"Everything is coming off for him at the moment."

Isn't it now Alex? According to a report by Deloitte, who dabble in this sort of thing from time to time I'm given to believe, Arsenal FC are the fifth richest football club. Well, that can only be good now. The list of the top 10 richest clubs are listed below.

1. (1) Real Madrid £236.2m

2. (4) Manchester United £212.1m

3. (2) Barcelona £195.3m

4. (6) Chelsea £190.5m

5. (9) Arsenal £177.6m

6. (5) Milan £153.0m

7. (8) Bayern Munich £150.3m

8. (10) Liverpool £133.9m

9. (7) Internazionale £131.3m

10. (12) Roma £106.1m

You would have noticed that there have not been any links in the post the last couple of days, will have to put that down to the "browser here being a bit shit."

Normal service will resume tomorrow, I assure you. There I've said my piece.

Thank you. Goodnight we love you all!! (said in Ozzy Osbourne style)
