WWE Survivor Series 2011: WWE Needs More Traditional Survivor Series Matches

Brandon GalvinNov 19, 2011

WWE pay-per-view events are quickly losing their appeal.

Vince McMahon’s conglomerate produces too many and so many pay-per-views that they all become a blur at this point. Fans yearn for the days when the booking team had ample time to create compelling storylines, instead of just throwing together matches in the week leading up to event, like currently.

Most WWE pay-per-views feel like exaggerated RAW or SmackDown events, generally because fans are greeted to the same match right before or after the event.

At this point, there is no reason for fans to “pay-per-view” unless there is a grand stipulation. McMahon already realizes that, which is why his event schedule is littered with specialty programs.

WWE has their "gimmick" shows now with Extreme Rules, Elimination Chamber, TLC, Hell in a Cell and Money in the Bank. Though those events fail to produce quality programs year-in and year-out, and are generally seen as overkill for most fans, McMahon refuses to do away with them in an attempt to rake in as much money as possible.

It makes fans wonder why WWE actively drops the ball with one of their most storied events—Survivor Series.

The event that was built around five-on-five elimination matches have been anything but; this year, fans will only be treated to one match the event is named after. One…seriously!?

WWE will give fans at least two Hell in a Cell matches at that event, but only one elimination match at one of the events that helped built the business…pathetic.

It’s pitiful and embarrassing by McMahon. It makes zero sense that WWE will forego one of the most exciting matches in their arsenal. Further, it is disgusting and disrespectful to fans for McMahon to spit on history and tradition.

Survivor Series is the perfect fall class and session to include nearly every wrestler in the company in some capacity. This year, up-and-coming performers such as Zack Ryder are left off the event because WWE failed to provide fans with the proper amount of survivor matches.

Fans love watching melees ensue in and out of the ring with an abundance of wrestlers. One of the reasons Royal Rumble is so successful is because fans get to see a variety of wrestlers interact with each other. That's the very reason fans are excited for traditional survivor elimination matches.

WWE already dropped the ball this year—mightily. The company needs to get back to their roots next year and give fans what they want—more five-on-five survivor matches.
