CM Punk WWE: Why 15 Minutes of Superstardom Are Nearly Through
I hate to burst the bubble of those who read the Internet dirt sheets and rave about how in touch they are with the indie scene, but CM Punk’s time as a top wrestler on the WWE brand is about to expire.
Don’t take this as hate because Punk may be the most talented person in the WWE in terms of having the true traits needed of a professional wrestler, but it is what it is and CM Punk won’t be drawing by Royal Rumble.
At the end of the day, as much as we want the best in ring guys and the best promos guys on TV at all times, there is far more to the machine that is the WWE than just what we want. There is what brings in money and CM Punk hasn’t had much luck doing that.

The numbers for SummerSlam were so-so. The numbers between that and Survivor Series have been pedestrian. Truthfully, the only thing that hasn’t been average is the number of tickets that the Rock is going to sell.
Your big guys, your biggest pushes, they sell tickets and when you aren’t selling they either try and flip you to help a good guy sell tickets or they head back to obscurity. When the dust clears and the Rock and Cena madness has subsided, Mark Henry will find himself out of a main event job.
CM Punk is a little different because for a good two month stretch he was the only reason to watch WWE. But then his gimmick, along with everything Triple H was doing, was becoming dull and too unpredictable to be any good.
There are those of you who will believe that his No. 1 t-shirt is proof positive that he's a bonafide superstar. Hate to burst your bubble but in a publicly traded company there is more to moving the needle than a cool shirt. If you aren't bringing in people to the arena, not getting people to buy PPV's and not getting people to tune in to the television you don't help drive the stock price up and you won't get a huge push. Rock sold PPV's. So did Austin, Triple H, Undertaker. Punk pushed 1. Hasn't done it since. Raw numbers are luke warm. There has to be more he's bringing to the table.
Maybe it’s not his fault, but the numbers just aren’t there and CM Punk will have to say goodbye to main events soon enough. The matter of the fact is that he’s just not cutting it at the superstar level.
