5 Best Dunkers in Chicago Bulls Franchise History
The history of the Chicago Bulls includes dangerous outside shooters like John Paxson, B.J. Armstrong, Craig Hodges and Steve Kerr.
There has also been exceptional rebounders such as Charles Oakley, Horace Grant and Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman.
Bulls fans have seen a good number of first-class dunkers play in the Windy City as well, like Scottie Pippen, Eddie Robinson and 1996 NBA dunk champ Brent Barry. You know, the guys who know how to make crowd-pleasing plays above the rim.
Here's a look at the Bulls' top-five greatest dunkers of all time. Sorry, but current forward Taj Gibson didn't make the list, even though he posterized Miami star and Chicago native Dwyane Wade last season.
Let's begin.
Tyrus Thomas
1 of 5In 2007, Thomas became the first Bull to participate in the slam dunk contest since Scottie Pippen in 1990.
Currently a member of the Charlotte Bobcats, the super-athletic Thomas threw down quite a few spectacular dunks during his three-and-a-half seasons in Chicago.
He never turned into a star with the Bulls like some had hoped, but he sure did bring the house down on many occasions.
Orlando Woolridge
2 of 5Woolridge was Michael Jordan's sidekick for a couple seasons in the '80s, putting up 20 points per game for the pre-Scottie Pippen Bulls.
In the '90s, both Isaiah Rider and Kobe Bryant won dunk contests by putting the ball between their legs. Both dunks were nice, but they weren't 100 percent original.
Woolridge performed the first between-the-leg dunk way back in the 1984 contest, easily one of the most underrated dunks of all time.
Derrick Rose
3 of 5Rose is the only active Bull on the list.
The 2011 NBA MVP has been dunking all over the league since he was drafted No. 1 overall by Chicago in 2008.
You have to feel sorry for Goran Dragic, who was simply posterized by Rose in Phoenix, and that D-Rose slam over Miami's Joel Anthony was just nasty.
Will this guy ever enter a dunk contest?
Scottie Pippen
4 of 5During his Hall of Fame career, Pippen was known as one of the league's best defenders and being one of the main reasons the Bulls captured six titles in the '90s.
He's also considered one of game's greatest dunkers.
Probably over a million times as a Bull, Pip picked an opponent's pocket and then took it the distance for the jam.
His dunk over New York's Patrick Ewing during the 1994 playoffs is hands-down one of the most talked-about plays in league history.
Michael Jordan
5 of 5Who were you expecting to see here, the great Luc Longley?
Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever, and the greatest dunker as well. Sorry, to all of you Vince Carter fans out there.
MJ won two of the three dunk contests that he participated in during the exciting 1980s.
The high-flying shooting guard had the ability to sky over seven-footers, fly from the foul line and even dunk off of missed free throws.
Like Pippen, Jordan's most memorable dunk was over Ewing, but MJ's was a little better.
