Thursday Night Football: Tim Tebow Redeems Borefest with Fantastic Finish

Kelly ScalettaNov 18, 2011

After watching last night's game featuring the New York Jets at the Denver Broncos, two things are evident: the first 58 minutes of any Denver game are not worth watching, and the last two minutes of Tebow Time are can't-miss.

In fact, the post-game interview with the NFL Network had more allure than most of the game.

Tim Tebow got his third game-winning drive in seven starts. Most of the game was just a horrible thing to watch. Denver's defense played outstanding and kept the Broncos in the game. If it weren't for them, a game-winning drive would have been impossible.

Broncos linebacker, Von Miller, was positively effulgent in his praise for Tim Tebow afterwards, saying, "I believe in Tim Tebow!"

There's going to be a tendency to dismiss Tebow's performance because it was the defense, or because he didn't complete enough passes, or because of any number of reasons. Most of the game was virtually unwatchable. It was boring; it was horrible.

It was Tebow either missing his receivers or, on those occasions when he didn't, they were at the line of scrimmage or they dropped the ball. It was ground and not pound. Willis McGahee kept getting stopped and Lance Ball didn't do much better.

Boring.

Every argument against Tebow is perfectly reasonable, except one.

The Broncos are 1-4 when he didn't start and 4-1 when he did. It is inexplicable, but it is true—that's the undeniable thing. While most of the game was boring, when it went into Tebow Time it was truly exciting football.

Those of us watching at home—even those watching in the booth—somehow knew what was inevitably true: Tim Tebow was going to figure out how to win this game. It was purely exciting football and made all the boredom worthwhile.

Now the Denver Broncos are ahead of the New York Jets in the playoff race. Tim Tebow has won more games this year than Michael Vick. No matter what you say or think about him, the time has come to concede that somehow, some way, with this kid, it's true.

He finds a way to win.
