WWE Survivor Series 2011: Why John Cena Has Surpassed The Rock in Popularity
While most people in the Internet Wrestling Community don’t want to admit this, John Cena has passed The Rock in popularity.
Cena gets a bigger reaction from the crowd—love or hate—so more people are driven to emotion by Cena than by The Rock.
Many of the fans of the WWE don’t remember The Rock as a full-time wrestler; all they have is John Cena.

While people cheer for The Rock, there is no emotional connection with the star because we don’t relate to him anymore.
As a wrestler, The Rock was the People’s Champ and was loved by the fans.
I don’t know how truly they love him anymore.
John Cena is at the shows day in and day out. I think that fans are just so tired of seeing him succeed that any former star could have returned and instantly gained the fans' support.
While it’s obvious that The Rock is far more popular in the mainstream, more people in the WWE universe are emotionally attached, good or bad, to John Cena.
This isn’t 2000 anymore. Many of the fans that were there to buy The Rock’s shirts and scream for him have come and gone.
They have been replaced by the lil’ jimmies that support Cena and the haters who get as much pleasure from booing Cena as they do cheering anyone else.
Whether you’re booing or cheering, as long as you are out of your seat, then John Cena is doing his job.
