Fedor and 7 MMA Fighters We Wish Would Retire
Over the past several years, mixed martial arts has come to be the world's fastest growing sport.
Mixed martial arts is made up of world class athletes who spend their lives dedicated to the sport they deeply love.
The sport is built upon some of the biggest names on the planet, up-and-coming fighters and, of course, those who've overstayed their welcome.
And, while we've seen these specific fighters at the top of their careers, times have changed as they've fallen from their throne.
Mixed martial arts is filled with fighters who simply need to throw in the towel.
So, the following slides display seven MMA fighters we want to see retire.
Let's take a look.
Wanderlei Silva
1 of 7At one point in his career, Wanderlei Silva was considered one of the most dangerous fighters on the planet.
And, while Silva certainly dominated during his days in Pride, the same couldn't be said when he made the transition to the UFC.
Since joining the UFC, Silva has posted a dreadful 3-6 record. Dating back to mid 2006, Silva has now lost six of his last eight bouts.
While Silva is set to take on Cung Le at UFC 138, chances are that it should and will be it for the long-lived legend.
Brandon Vera
2 of 7After winning the first four fights of his mixed martial arts career, Brandon Vera entered the UFC and defeated Fabiano Scherner in his debut.
Vera would go on to win his next three fights including a knockout victory over Frank Mir at UFC 65.
Vera was considered the be the future of the UFC heavyweight division until his career came tumbling down.
In his last 10 bouts, Vera has won just four fights. It's time for Vera to hang it up.
Fedor Emelianenko
3 of 7From when Fedor Emelianenko entered the sport of mixed martial arts in 2000, he was considered by man to be the greatest fighter of all time.
In fact, Emelianenko went nearly 10 years without losing a single fight.
Unfortunately, the Last Emperor fell from his throne when he was shocked by Fabricio Werdum at a Strikeforce event in June of 2010.
The loss became a snowball effect as Emelianenko would lose his next two bouts and hasn't won since.
Matt Hughes
4 of 7It's hard to deny just how good Matt Hughes once was, as he is considered by many to be the best welterweight of all time.
The former UFC welterweight champion hasn't won a fight since August of 2010, as he's lost his last two bouts.
In his last nine bouts, Hughes has been declared victorious just four times over sub-par opponents in Ricardo Almedia, Renzo Gracie, Matt Serra and Chris Lytle.
It's difficult for many to watch Hughes as he is beginning to ruin his legacy.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
5 of 7Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has been around the sport of mixed martial arts for as long as most of us can remember.
And, over the past three-and-a-half years, Nogueira has fought just five times and just twice in the last two years.
While Nogueira has won three of those five fights, he is certainly on the down slope of his mixed martial arts career.
Nogueira is set to take on Frank Mir at UFC 140, and if he were to lose, he should call an end to his historical career.
Matt Serra
6 of 7While Matt Serra hasn't stepped foot inside the Octagon since September of 2010, he remains an active fighter in the UFC.
And, many are not sure why, as he's lost three of his last four bouts.
Serra was most well-known for his knockout victory over Georges St-Pierre to capture the UFC welterweight title. But, Serra would lose the title in his very next fight causing many to believe it was a fluke.
Serra still believes he has what it takes to fight at the highest level but he's sadly mistaken.
Tito Ortiz
7 of 7If we're being completely honest with one another, Tito Ortiz is no longer a legitimate contender in the light heavyweight division.
And, while Ortiz may have beaten Ryan Bader at UFC 132, he went on to lose his very next fight to Rashad Evans in disappointing fashion.
In his last seven fights, Ortiz has captured just one win.
It's time for the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" to call it quits to an exceptional career.
