Tim Tebow: Why Chosen One Will Throw Early and Often Against Jets

Eric BallNov 17, 2011

Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos have the New York Jets right where they want them.

Going into Thursday night’s tilt, all of the focus is on the Broncos ridiculous run-pass ratio. They say you can’t win in the NFL by completing two passes in a game; the Broncos did. Denver has rushed for 543 yards in consecutive games and everyone assumes they should take the under on 11 total completions for Tebow.

While I’m not sure about that bet, you can bank on the fact the Broncos are going to give the Jets a huge wake-up call.

This just in: only three quarterbacks that have started four or more games in 2011 have a better winning percentage than Tebow (.750). Don’t give me the easy opponent excuse. He just beat two divisional opponents back-to-back on the road.

His style isn’t pretty, but he finds a way.

Last week against KC, he didn’t need to throw the ball. The Broncos grabbed a lead early on and bled the clock. The Chiefs couldn’t’ stop them, so why get away from what works?

Yet the ridiculously cocky Jets, who were smashed to bits by the Patriots four days ago, still don’t take Tebow seriously. Just listen to the insulting remarks of CB Darrelle Revis:

"

The biggest thing for the secondary is for us not to fall asleep. It can get boring, especially if a team keeps on just running the ball, series after series, play after play.

"

You've got to be kidding me. That is some serious bulletin board material. If I’m the Broncos offense, I take this personal. This is an provoking comment and you better believe the entire Broncos offense is dying to show Revis how wrong he is.

After playing on Sunday Night Football where they likely didn’t get to bed until 2 a.m., they have two days to prepare for the most unconventional offense in 40 years, then they must fly two time-zones west to play a day later in high altitude.

Sure, the Broncos game plan is going to feature plenty of Willis McGahee (if he plays) and Lance Ball, but there is going to be more play action out of the option, more trickery and even some down-field throws on a half-asleep Revis.

Bottom line: He completed 66 percent of his passes and threw for 88 touchdown passes in college for a reason.

Tebow will throw the ball when he needs to, and he’ll find a way to make Revis eat his words.
