NFL Week 11 Predictions: Projecting the Biggest Fantasy Football Duds

Andrea HangstNov 15, 2011

Three go-to fantasy starters are looking more and more like they're primed for disappointing performances in Week 11 thanks to poor matchups. If you can afford to, I suggest benching them; if you cannot, then temper your expectations accordingly.

RB LeGarrette Blount, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at Green Bay Packers)

Once thought primed to be a fantasy stud in 2011, Tampa Bay's LeGarrette Blount has been held back by his team's inconsistent offensive performances and injuries. In Week 10, he rushed just 10 times for 34 yards, as his team played from behind early and abandoned the run to play catch-up via the pass.

The team never caught up, getting blown out 37-9 by the Houston Texans. This week, the team travels to Green Bay to face the undefeated Packers, and Blount's owners should expect more of the same.

The Packers defense held Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson to just 51 yards (and a score) on 14 carries as the team struggled on long down-and-distance situations and had a major point deficit that didn't benefit from the run game.

Blount's no Peterson, but the Buccaneers will find themselves in a similar hole against the league's best offense, meaning that Blount is due for yet another low-scoring week for your fantasy team.

WR DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles (at New York Giants)

Jackson and Eagles head coach Andy Reid have worked out their differences that saw the receiver benched in Week 10, Fellow starter Jeremy Maclin, suffering from a shoulder injury, might not play against the Giants, but that doesn't immediately make Jackson a guaranteed stud this Sunday.

The Eagles' overall offensive inconsistency has rendered Jackson a risky fantasy start in a week-by-week basis, with only two 100-plus yard receiving games and just 503 yards and two scores on the year.

His numbers headed into Week 10 were in decline, with 46 yards in Week 6, 31 in Week 8 and 16 in Week 9. And now that quarterback Michael Vick has broken ribs and may not play against the Giants, it could be up to Vince Young to get Jackson involved in the passing offense—not a promising prospect.

With the Giants' strong defense up ahead and Young likely under center, Jackson doesn't look like he's going to have a very good week.

QB Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals (at Baltimore Ravens)

With fantasy stud quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger and Drew Brees on bye this week, many of their owners are looking for a reliable alternative. Though Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton has impressed in his rookie season, his offense's matchup this week against the brutal Baltimore Ravens defense makes him a poor start for Week 11.

While Dalton is having an extraordinarily successful rookie season, completing 173 of his 287 passes for 1,866 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. But against difficult defenses, he struggles.

In his team's Week 4 contest against the San Francisco 49ers, he went 17-of-32 for 157 yards and two interceptions. Last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he went 15-of-30 for 170 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

It won't be any easier for Dalton this Sunday against the Ravens, and that means he's not a worthwhile fantasy starter, no matter how desperate you may be. Try to grab the Bears' Jay Cutler or even the Cardinals' John Skelton as an alternative.
