WWE Monday Night Raw Gets Rocked: Top 5 Moments of the Night
The WWE Monday Night Raw SuperShow was in full effect last night, and Bleacher Report is here to break down the five best moments from the show.
The Rock returned to WWE television in a three-hour special that was booked to build hype toward Survivor Series this Sunday.
Between The Rock's return, Mick Foley's return and focus on other Survivor Series matches, Raw was loaded with plenty of action.
There was plenty of focus on Team Orton vs. Team Barrett, which has been in dire need of attention on Raw in order to make their traditional Survivor Series match relevant. WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio also stepped his game up and refused to let CM Punk outclass him this week.
Not to mention that Kevin Nash also made a short and not-so-sweet appearance, where he destroyed Santino.
With so much taking place on Raw last night, the ranking of top five moments of the night was no easy task!
Kevin Nash and Santino Share Their Royal Rumble Moment
1 of 5Santino came out to address the Boston crowd, who gave him a positive reaction, and began to discuss how earlier in the year at the Royal Rumble, he nearly won.
He vowed that the next time he came to Boston, he would be a champion.
Quite the comedian, that Santino.
The classic NWO music hit, and Kevin Nash entered the ring. He said he was a big fan of Santino, and asked him to do the "trumpet thing."
Santino obliged, but was leveled with a big boot from Nash when he turned back around. Nash then cut a promo on Triple H, about how he didn't give him a job after receiving the biggest pop of the Royal Rumble.
Nash closed the segment with a Jackknife Powerbomb on Santino.
Jim Ross Makes It Through the Michael Cole Challenge with His Dignity Intact
2 of 5In the opening segment of the night, Jim Ross finally took the Michael Cole challenge.
Thankfully, WWE avoided completely embarrassing JR and found a way to take Cole down a notch as well.
The challenge didn't make much sense, as Michael Cole kept score in what seemed to be a best-of-three style challenge, but after JR beat him in arm wrestling and a dance competition, it all came down to "who weighs less?"
Of course, JR was the heavier man, but only by 39 lbs. Michael Cole celebrated, acting a fool as usual—then CM Punk came out.
Punk gave Cole a proper thrashing on the microphone, but John Laurinaitis came out to intervene.
When Laurinaitis told Punk that he and his 38,000 Twitter followers wanted to see the entirety of the Michael Cole challenge, Punk was concise in his reply.
"Well, screw you and your 38,000 Twitter followers."
Well played, Punk. The segment ended with Punk injuring Michael Cole with the Anaconda Vice.
The Rock Ends Mick Foley's Brutal "This Is Your Life, John Cena"
3 of 5I would go in depth on Mick Foley's "This is Your Life, John Cena", but I won't.
Because it was horrible. Truly, horrible.
Almost so horrible it's funny, but not funny enough to make you forget how horrible it was in the first place.
That said, I believe that was intentional, because the payoff was classic.
Foley was about to drag on the segment with an embarrassed John Cena, but The Rock's music hit and he stormed into the ring.
Rather than greeting Foley or insulting Cena, Rock hit Rock Bottom on Foley as he went to hug him.
Then, just as fast as he came, The Rock left, leaving Cena confused but certainly relieved.
Cody Rhodes Scores a Picture-Perfect Finish in the First Match of Raw
4 of 5In the first match of Raw, Cody Rhodes and Hunico (Team Barrett) defeated Kofi Kingston and Sin Cara (Team Orton) in what I thought was a highly entertaining bout.
That's saying something, considering how little I actually enjoy tag-team matches.
Cody Rhodes surprised the fans when he came out without his mask, and there was a little irony in that he was teaming with Hunico, who recently lost his Sin Cara Negro mask.
Aside from the match itself, I appreciated that WWE was trying to build conflict for Team Orton vs. Team Barrett without forcing Barrett and Orton to do all the work.
The finish was picture perfect—here was my immediate take on it from my Raw Live blog:
"The finish of this match was picture perfect, Hunico ran in to make the save for Rhodes who was getting pinned. Hunico then hit Sin Cara, but was thrown out of the ring by Kofi. Rhodes looks to hit Cross Rhodes on Kofi while he's distracted and as Sin Cara dives over the top rope taking out Hunico.
Near misses for both Kofi and Rhodes lead to Rhodes hitting Cross Rhodes, and getting the pin. Very well done!
"
Throw in JR doing commentary for the match while Cole was "injured," and you've got one of the top moments of the night.
The Rock Addresses the Fans, Awesome Truth and John Cena
5 of 5The final segment of Raw was dedicated entirely to The Rock, who came out to address the fans.
The opening promo he cut was classic Rocky—if you've heard one, you've heard most, but they sure don't get old.
"Finally, the Rock has come BACK to Boston!"
The Rock wanted to get a piece of Awesome Truth on Raw, calling them out, and they came into the ring.
After some sparring on the mic, Awesome Truth declared that they wouldn't be fighting the Rock on Raw and began to leave the ring.
They stopped as John Cena came out and joined them in the ring.
This led to Rock and Cena jabbing at one another, the Rock telling Cena to watch himself before he gets a size 15 right to his lady parts.
In the end, a fight broke out, and Rock stole the glory by hitting Rock Bottom on both The Miz and R-Truth, saving Miz from an Attitude Adjustment only so he could finish the job.
Also, in the middle of all this, the Rock was consistently plugging his Twitter.
He said that when he says something will trend, it will trend. Sure enough, both "Boots to Asses" and "#CenasLadyParts" were trending as Raw went off the air.
