College Football Recruiting 2012: Recruiting Grades for the Week 12 BCS Top 25

Edwin WeathersbyNov 14, 2011

Here we are in Week 12 of the college football season. This is has been a historic season on and off the field, and a lot of races are heating up.

To give you a double whammy of this week's BCS standings and a recruiting view on it, we're going to run down and grade each of the Top 25 teams' current recruiting output for their 2012 class. Some teams are ranked lower than their current class would indicate, and vice versa.

Let's get going.

25. Florida State

1 of 25

The Seminoles are back in the BCS standings and have a very good recruiting class. However, there is some leaking going on in their class. Their 16 commitments include QB Jameis Winston, DE Chris Casher, WR Marvin Bracy and DT Justin Shanks.

Mario Edwards is going to have to be fought for.

Grade: A

24. Auburn

2 of 25

The defending champs aren't last year's team, but the young bunch play hard.

On the recruiting front, it's been the same ol' recruiting juggernaut at Auburn. The Tigers have 14 commitments right now, led by QB Zeke Pike and WR Ricardo Louis and TE Ricky Parks.

Grade: A-

23. Texas

3 of 25

Wow, what can you say about Texas' recruiting class? It's tops in the country right now, as the 19 commitments are stellar. Mack Brown's top prospect is RB Johnathan Gray, along with DT Malcolm Brown, QB Connor Brewer and WR Cayleb Jones among others.

Grade: A+

22. Baylor

4 of 25

The Bears have a golden boy at quarterback this season and have the makings of a Cinderella team.

Baylor has 18 commitments led by DB Kiante Griffin, WR Corey Coleman and DB Aiavion Edwards.

Grade: B-

21. Penn State

5 of 25

Penn State is looking good on the trail this year with 15 commitments. Even though they lost solid OT recruit J.J. Denman, they still have pledges from WR Eugene Lewis, DT Tommy Schutt, OLB Camren Williams and DB Armani Reeves.

Grade: B+

20. Southern Miss

6 of 25

The Golden Eagles check in at No. 20 in the BCS standings this week.

Southern Miss has 16 commitments, led by 6'5", 295-pound OL Caleb Peterson.

Grade: C

19. TCU

7 of 25

The Horned Frogs will make the jump to the Big 12 next year and are fresh off a victory over annual foe Boise State.

TCU has 12 commitments, led by DE Devonte Fields and TE Griffin Gilbert.

Grade: C

18. Michigan

8 of 25

Michigan has 24 commitments and a pledge from five-star OT Kyle Kalis. Toss in TE Devin Funchess, CB Terry Richardson, DT Ondre Pipkins, a stable of pass rushers and four great linebacker prospects, and you see why Michigan could have a Top 10 class.

Grade: A

17. Wisconsin

9 of 25

They have 11 commitments, and the player I like the most is OG Dan Voltz. QB Bart Houston will be a starter at Camp Randall, and I also dig RB Vonte Jackson, OL Kyle Dodson, DB D.J. Singleton and newest OT commit J.J. Denman, whom Wisconsin took from Penn State.

Grade: B

16. Nebraska

10 of 25

Nebraska is not doing so hot right now on the trail. Bo Pelini has gotten just seven pledges, and the top prospects are OT Paul Thurston, WR Jordan Westerkamp, QB Tommy Armstrong and DE Greg McMullen.

Grade: D+

15. Michigan State

11 of 25

The Spartans have a 15-commitment class headed to East Lansing next year. The top two players are speedy WR Aaron Burbridge and DE Se'Von Pittman. I expect a few more top-tier players from the Midwest to declare for the Spartans over time.

Grade: B-

14. Georgia

12 of 25

Mark Richt has rebounded well after a pretty rocky start this season. Recruiting-wise, the Athens crew has 13 pledges. Their top prospect is five-star OT John Theus, who is one of the best 15 players overall in the country.

Grade: B-

13. Kansas State

13 of 25

For Bill Snyder and the Wildcats to be doing so well on the field, it's tough to understand why they pretty much have the worst class in the Big 12. K-State has 10 commitments, but their top-rated player is three-star LB Will Davis.

Grade: D

12. South Carolina

14 of 25

South Carolina has done a great job of getting by week to week. They don't ask Connor Shaw to do too much, and they just win games.

The Gamecocks have 20 commitments, led by WR Shaq Roland and OT Brock Stadnik.

Grade: B+

11. Houston

15 of 25

The Cougars can score points against anyone, and that is the main reason they find themselves inside the BCS standings.

They have 13 commitments, and their top-ranked player is RB Terrance Taylor.

Grade: C

10. Boise State

16 of 25

The Broncos don't get the top-tier talent. Yet BSU recruits players that want to be there and are smart, instinctive and passionate. The Broncos have secured 13 commitments led by LB Ben Weaver.

Grade: C

9. Stanford

17 of 25

Stanford took a loss to Oregon this weekend but has a 14-commitment class. The Cardinal have a commitment from 6'4", 225-pound LB Noor Davis, who I feel will be a complete three-down defender on the Farm. DB Alex Carter is another player that I like.

Grade: B-

8. Virginia Tech

18 of 25

Same ol' Hokies and Frank Beamer. Virginia Tech has 26 commits right now, and they're almost done filling up their class. I love CB Donaldven Manning, who has great short-area quickness and closing speed, and also RB Drew Harris.

Grade: B

7. Clemson

19 of 25

We should have known something was up at Clemson when they signed four five-star recruits last year. Today, the Tigers are the Cinderella team of the season. On the recruiting trail, they have 20 commitments, led by DL Carlos Watkins and DB Travis Blanks.

Grade: B+

6. Arkansas

20 of 25

Twenty players have told Bobby Petrino they're all Hog, and Arkansas has been pretty good this year. The main player to get excited about is WR Jalen Cobb, who has good speed and quickness.

Grade: B-

5. Oklahoma

21 of 25

The Sooners are creeping back up the BCS Standings. Uh oh.

They have 14 commitments right now. You have to like a class full of players like John McGee, Durron Neal, Ty Darlington, Alex Ross, Sterling Shepard, Trevor Knight and Charles Tapper.

Grade: B+

4. Oregon

22 of 25

Oregon has been a disappointment this year on the recruiting trail. Yet on the field, since the opening-day loss to LSU, the Ducks have been very good. Right now, they have 12 pledges, with QB Jake Rodrigues being their top prospect.

Grade: C-

3. Alabama

23 of 25

The Tide is doing what the Tide does on the field and on the recruiting front: dominate. Twenty pledges make up the class, with two headliners in LB Reggie Ragland and DS/ATH Eddie Williams. Alabama is on its way to another Top 5 class.

Grade: A

2. Oklahoma State

24 of 25

The Pokes have a 13-commitment class right now, but they have been the victims of several devastating de-commitments. They do have WR/DB Kendall Sanders in the fold, along with QB Wes Lunt and TE Dominic Ramacher.

Grade: C

1. LSU

25 of 25

LSU is No.1, and there is no debate about it. The Tigers have 20 commitments, they're coming off a great 2011 class and this class is pretty nice, too. The top players are WR Avery Johnson (Patrick Peterson's brother) and LB/DE Toshiro Davis.

Grade: B
