WWE Survivor Series: Can Mark Henry and Big Show Top Their Last Match?

Tom ClarkNov 15, 2011

Tell the truth.  When the time came for Mark Henry versus Big Show at WWE Vengeance, you left the room to get more chips.

After all, this was Mark Henry, the waste of space who was pushed to the moon because WWE felt they owed him something.  He’s not a good worker, he just fumbles around in the ring and falls on people.

And, Big Show?  His routine is tired and outdated, just 10 minutes ago he was jobbing to everybody, jumping for a body slam when he had no business doing so.  He doesn’t have it anymore.

The two of them together, in the same ring?  For the World Championship?  Ridiculous.  A huge waste of time.

Right?

Wrong.  Dead wrong.

Big Show and Mark Henry proved that not only do big men have a place in the ring, they can more than carry a main event match.

It’s been proven over the years in WWE, but it bears repeating, and constant reminding, mostly because of fans who just will not concede the point.

No, we’re not talking about Flair versus Steamboat, or Hunter versus Shawn, these two monsters do not have those types of matches.  Quick, fast paced, athletic action with rapid near falls are not the name of the game for Show and Henry.

Hard hitting action, heavy handed impacts, big bruising power moves, that is what the two men brought at SummerSlam.  In a match that many had written off before it even began, Mark Henry and Big Show brought everything they had for the second top prize in the company.

Let’s be honest, it was a good match.

Personally, I’m not always big on super heavyweights mixing it up in the ring.  I too, am a fan of the younger, quicker Superstars who have up-tempo matches that leave you breathless at the end.
But, sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by what I see with the big guys, and this match was no exception.

Their entire feud—up to this point—has been entertaining.  A lot of this is due to the fact that Show is such a likeable guy, a friendly, familiar, face who goes all out to make you smile, and is a nice link to the fun days of the Monday Night Wars.

Mark Henry, of course, is doing what he does, playing the role of the heartless, merciless monster, who is undaunted by the challenge of a vengeful Big Show, and seeks to prove once again why he deserves to be the World Champion.

They had a big time main event match, and gave the fans more than they likely expected to get.

Oh yeah, and they broke the ring.

Talk about high impact, that one literally brought the house down.  The pop that moment received made a good match even better, and brought instant credibility to the World Championship.

Not that the belt needed it.  The fact is that since Henry has held the title, he has been a fighting champion, defeating every opponent placed in front of him.  His run has been dominating, and he has done more for the championship than anyone ever thought he would.

Now, all Show and Henry have to do is follow up at Survivor Series.

No problem.  I’m sure they can come up with something.  Maybe Big Show can pick up Michael Cole and hit Mark Henry over the head with him.

Okay, so, one big gimmick at the end of a match does not necessarily make it an epic contest.  But, the broken ring did put a nice little exclamation mark at the end of a good World Title match that many fans felt was going to be nothing short of a train wreck.

As far as Show versus Henry part two, I for one say, bring it on.  Time for these two weapons of mass destruction to go off once again.

And here you thought they didn’t exist.
