UFC on Fox: 3 Prelim Fighters We Don't Want to See Again

Kyle SymesNov 13, 2011

The UFC on Fox saw some prelim fighters make the most of their opportunity to impress a new fan base.

The prelim fights are where most of the lower-tier talent make or break their careers. Win a couple fights before the cameras turn on and a fighter can find themselves being under the bright lights very soon.

It can also be the place where a fighter sees their walking papers handed to them. The UFC isn't going to keep around guys who can't win in the preliminary bouts and for these fighters, that should be the case.

Be sure to stay tuned to Bleacher Report for all things UFC on FOX. B/R is your home for post-fight analysis of the Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos fight card. Also, be sure to check out our fight card hub page for news and opinion on the entire UFC on FOX fight card.

Norifumi Yamamoto

1 of 3

Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto was one of the best fighters in the world—five years ago.

Since coming to the UFC, Yamamoto has dropped two-straight decisions and looked unimpressive in both.

The UFC is likely saving Yamamoto for their UFC Japan card but for the sake of his career, let's hope the UFC makes the right call and releases Yamamoto.

Cole Escovedo

2 of 3

Cole Escovedo's story is a very heartwarming one. After a severe staph infection that saw him require spinal surgery, Escovedo made his return to MMA with five-straight wins.

Escovedo made his UFC debut at UFC 130 against Renan Barao and lost via unanimous decision. He then was stopped by Takeya Mizugaki in the second round of their matchup.

I can forgive Escovedo for those losses as Barao looks to be a title challenger and Mizugaki is one of the tougher fights for mid-level fighters in the UFC.

But losing to Alex Caceres has to be the final straw. It's his third-straight loss and that generally means it's time to fight for a different organization.

Escovedo clearly doesn't have the talent level right now to compete in the UFC and needs to rebuild his career in a smaller promotion.

Matt Lucas

3 of 3

UFC newcomer Matt Lucas had an impressive resume coming into Saturday's bout. He had gone 5-1 in his last six fights and took on Aaron Rosa, who was making his return to the light heavyweight division.

Lucas secured a takedown in the opening frame but after that offered virtually no offense for the remainder of the fight. He also was deducted a point for dropping  his mouthpiece.

When you're a wrestler and you have more mouthpiece drops than takedowns in a fight, it's time to go.
