Inactive: 5 Reasons Why Philadelphia Eagles Receiver DeSean Jackson Was Benched
For the Philadelphia Eagles, receiver DeSean Jackson hasn't been a model athlete on the field or a perfect employee off the field.
Jackson's placement on the inactive list for Sunday's game isn't the result of Jackson simply missing one Saturday team meeting.
Instead, Jackson will not be playing NFL football as the Eagles host the Arizona Cardinals because of a perfect storm of transgressions, disappointments and missteps.
Here are the top five reasons why Jackson was benched. For those wondering, Jason Avant was called upon to fill the void left by Jackson in the starting lineup.
No. 5: Agent Drew Rosenhaus Is Shrewd, Rude and Crude
1 of 5In the back of Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid and GM Howie Roseman's collective minds, receiver DeSean Jackson is represented by the most unpleasant agent in the National Football League.
Agent Drew Rosenhaus is known for his aggressive tactics to earn his players better deals. His personality accordingly fits his position—he is a shark who scores great deals for his clients.
His clients are also known for holding out for more money, missing training camp and practices to protest their contracts.
Don't think for a second the Philadelphia Eagles aren't ready to fight fire with fire.
No. 4: Jackson's Week 9 Performance
2 of 5When the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Chicago Bears on Nov. 7, DeSean Jackson's performance was one he'd like to forget.
Against the Bears, Jackson received only two passes for 16 yards. More importantly, Jackson committed a key fumble on special teams, losing the ball and giving the Bears a key second opportunity.
Chicago won by a final of 30-24, thanks in no small part to Jackson's error.
No. 3: Pre-Season Protest
3 of 5Back in August, DeSean Jackson was upset with his current contract and decided to protest his salary situation by boycotting Philadelphia's training camp.
Jackson was never dedicated to the Eagles back then, and his decision to return to camp on Aug. 8 was a direct result of collective bargaining agreement-imposed fines, sanctions and penalties for missing camp.
Jackson only decided to report to training camp when he came face to face with the threat of losing a year of NFL service.
That year will prove valuable when Jackson enters free agency—and after his latest benching, it appears the Philadelphia Eagles cannot wait.
No. 2: Poor, Poor Attitude
4 of 5According to CBS NFL insider Mike Freeman, the Philadelphia Eagles' coaches—and especially head coach Andy Reid—are tired of Jackson's poor attitude on and off the field.
They allegedly are so fed up with Jackson's corruption of the Eagles locker room environment that they have decided to seek any opportunity whatsoever to place Jackson on the inactive list.
According to Freeman's source, the Eagles simply don't like having him around and are benching him for no greater purpose than to send a powerful message.
No. 1: Last Straw, DeSean Jackson Misses Yet Another Team Meeting
5 of 5With factors No. 2-5 bottling up, the Philadelphia Eagles were looking for the slightest opportunity to discipline or otherwise slight DeSean Jackson for making the team look bad.
With two anonymous sources telling the Associated Press that Jackson has now missed multiple team meetings, the decision began to look easier and easier for the Philadelphia Eagles.
For Andy Reid and company, this is a situation of an unruly, insubordinate player who is acting up yet again.
By missing Saturday's meeting—with the lame excuse of sleeping through his alarm clock—Jackson has mocked the Eagles one too many times.
This move was a no brainer for Philadelphia; Jackson's latest antics were the last straw.
If this was any other player, they would have been given the benefit of the doubt, maybe even a one-quarter resting.
But not Jackson. He has proven time and again that he doesn't want to be in Philadelphia under the Eagles' terms. It's high time the Eagles treat him in the same fashion.
