UFC on Fox 1 Results: Power Ranking the 3 Best Prelim Finishes

Tim McTiernanNov 13, 2011

Saturday night may not have had many finishes on the preliminary card, but the ones that were, were pretty impressive.

There were four finishes total, two TKOs and two submissions, but one of the TKOs was the cause of an unseen—and unintentional—headbutt.

So, with that in mind, let's take a look at the three best finishes from the preliminary card.

Dustin Poirier vs. Pablo Garza: D'Arce Choke

1 of 3

In one of the most relevant fights on the preliminary card, Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier faced off against Pablo "The Scarecrow" Garza.

Garza was well known because his past two fights had both ended in spectacular fashion, as a flying knee and a flying triangle earned him bonus checks in his past two.

Poirier would have none of that this time.

In the second round, after controlling the entire fight, Poirier was able to lock in a D'Arce choke and roll Garza over.

Then, he got the tap, and the fight was over.

Poirier is likely one fight away from a shot at Jose Aldo.

Cub Swanson vs. Ricardo Lamas: Arm-Triangle Choke

2 of 3

This was a fight where many people would have expected Cub Swanson to have an edge on the ground against Ricardo Lamas.

After all, Swanson is a black belt, and Lamas is a brown belt.

Swanson almost ended the fight at one point, as he had a very tight guillotine locked in for quite awhile.

Lamas fought out, and in the second round, he took the back of Swanson.

From there, he kept working and ended up with a tight arm-triangle that forced Cub to tap out.

DaMarques Johnson vs. Clay Harvison: TKO (punches)

3 of 3

This was arguably the best finish on the preliminary card, as it was basically a one-punch TKO.

In the first round, Johnson landed a solid left hand that dropped Harvison, and he began to celebrate.

However, Herb Dean hadn't stopped the fight yet, so Johnson landed one or two more shots for good measure, and the fight was over.

One punch knockouts always take the cake.
