Penn State vs. Nebraska: Defense Will Compensate for Weak PSU Offense
The Penn State Nittany Lions have much on their plate this week with all of the controversy surrounding Jerry Sandusky, Joe Paterno and the alleged cover-up of child sex crimes.
For the student athletes on the football program, the toughest part of it all is that they have to walk on the field Saturday and play a football game with the weight of the program on their shoulders.
Few teams, if any, in the history of college football have ever been in a situation similar to this one, and it’s going to be a learning process.
While most outsiders of the PSU program will not be focused on the game, the players have nothing on their mind but being able to revel in the heat of a battle.
The problem for Penn State has been and will be the mediocre offense that the team boasts.
Penn State is ranked 100th in the nation in total offense, scoring just 21.8 points per game and not showing any signs of consistency.
With such a putrid offense, even more burden has been shifted to the talented defense of the Nittany Lions.
The team’s defense is ranked third in the nation, only allowing 12.4 points per game and compensating for the offenses' inabilities.
The key in the game against Nebraska will be the run defense stopping the potent ground attack of the Cornhuskers.
If Penn State can stop Rex Burkhead and running quarterback Taylor Martinez, the Nittany Lions offense can put up enough points to steal the win.
