Jerry Sandusky Sex Scandal: No Happy Ending Possible for Penn State Saturday
Regardless of how well No. 12 Penn State fares on the football field Saturday against No. 19 Nebraska, the enormous child sex abuse scandal currently rocking the university guarantees a loss for the program.
The story has been in the news for the past week and likely won't be going away anytime soon.
Unfortunately, more victims are going to emerge and more anger and shame will be directed towards one of the nation's most prestigious universities.
The disturbing allegations regarding former Nittany Lions defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky have been front page news all over the country and have transcended the sports world entirely.
"Monster" is perhaps the best world to describe Sandusky if the allegations prove to be true.
But then what word should be used to describe those who stood by and did nothing while Sandusky gave into sick and unacceptable temptations, allegedly?
Joe Paterno was not only a college football coaching legend but a sports hero this time last week, and now he will likely be remembered best as the man who was in the best position to save innocent children from the actions of a monster but did not.
It's crazy what winning football games will do to people. Apparently, it's more important than morals that need no teaching, or explaining.
For all the rioters, the bottom line is this: Penn State was done in by the very man and program that put it on the map.
A win over Nebraska on the football field would be a great accomplishment for those players and coaches who have worked hard to be successful at the game they love.
But for those same Penn State players and coaches, and all those who represent the university, this scandal will continue to haunt and leave an everlasting mark that travels beyond the football team's position in the BCS standings.
