Mike McQueary: Penn State Trustees Are Hypocrites for Keeping Coach

Eric BowmanNov 11, 2011

The Penn State board of trustees began to clean house. However, with Mike McQueary still on the coaching staff, it proves how hypocritical they truly are.

The Joe Paterno era at Penn State ended late on Wednesday night. Everyone assumed McQueary would be fired right along with him.

After all, McQueary is just as much to blame as Paterno.

As a graduate assistant in 2002, McQueary witnessed former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually assaulting a young boy in the locker room showers.

McQueary told Paterno, who told his superiors. The incident was never reported to the police. However, several years later, Sandsuky was arrested for allegedly using his charity, Second Mile, to molest young boys

In the grand jury report, it states exactly what McQueary saw that day, in addition to what he did after. Here is a excerpt of the 23-page report.

"

The graduate assistant was shocked but noticed that both Victim 2 and Sandusky saw him. The graduate assistant left immediately, distraught.

"

Making eye contact with Sandusky in the showers with a young boy and yet never taking action to put this alleged child molester behind bars is wrong on so many levels.

McQueary was a 28-year-old at the time. Being a young, scared kid is not an excuse. As the witness, he had as much responsibility as Paterno to report the incident to the police and put Sandusky in his rightful place in jail.

However, that didn't happen, and it played a huge role in the Nittany Lions' downfall.

Why then does McQueary still have a job at Penn State?

The longer McQueary remains a coach at the university, the more problems the Nittany Lions will have. Keeping him on the staff shows that the board of trustees doesn't know what they're doing.

So many people are outraged that Paterno was fired but McQueary still gets to keep his job.

It wasn't known if McQueary would be on the sidelines of Penn State's game against Nebraska this weekend. However, recent reports on Twitter gave people some answers.

That being said, it's not quite the answer some were hoping for. Many want him fired.

However, this is the exact reason McQueary needs to be dumped. The receivers coach and recruiting assistant is a constant reminder of Penn State's failures. He has to be let go.

The board of trustees should have fired him on Wednesday night, but they didn't. It's extremely hypocritical for them to get rid of Paterno—a legend at the school—while keeping the witness, who was just as morally wrong as Paterno, on staff.
