Penn State Riots: Weak Uprising Only Turns Up Heat on Joe Paterno
Those who witnessed the Rodney King or Watts riots had to chuckle a bit when they saw the footage of the Penn State "riot" in support of Joe Paterno.
Here is how Fox News described the scene.
""At around 12:20 a.m. local time Thursday, the university issued an official police dispersal order through Facebook, warning students to vacate downtown State College immediately. It came after several violent scenes in which protesters flipped over a media van and destroyed other property."
"
Wow. They flipped over a van? Poor form, Penn State. If you are going to riot, do it right.
This is the biggest scandal in college football history. Paterno is now public enemy No. 1, and a couple thousand bored kids looking to throw a fit to "honor" their head coach only agitates those who are thrilled to see that Penn State took action and fired Paterno.
The fans who gathered outside of his house had the right idea. That was a way to show Paterno and the rest of the world that, although he is seeing negative attention, Paterno still has people in his corner.
As for the "rioters?" Flipping a vehicle and getting maced to support the cause didn't do anything. The weak uprising actually takes away from the message the students were trying to send in the first place.
Paterno supporters are under enough scrutiny as it is. This only adds to the animosity the general public feels for Paterno.
