NFL Power Rankings: Denver Broncos and Improving Teams Trending Towards Success

Eric BallNov 9, 2011

This just in: Tim Tebow is improving every week.

The Denver Broncos are currently rated 28th in my Week 10 power rankings, a placement that is only going to get higher.

Tebow is getting much more comfortable in the Broncos offense and it’s showing as he just registered the best game of his short NFL career against the Raiders.

Finally the coaching staff is catering the offense to Tebow’s strengths.

It’s OK that Tebow completes fewer than 50 percent of his passes when he makes up for it by running for over 100 yards. Obviously that won’t be the case every week, but he’s still getting the job done without completing a ton of passes. Of course, a resurrected Willis McGahee doesn’t hurt either.

He has a 2-1 record as a starter, and expect it to stay over .500 for the rest of the season. In fact, don’t count them out of the dreadful AFC West just yet.

Here are two other teams that will be climbing up the rankings:

19. Tennessee Titans (4-4)

I know you have heard this before, but RB Chris Johnson is very close to a breakout. He looked much quicker in traffic last week against Cincinnati, and is finally picking up yards after the first hit. Any sort of improvement would be huge for a Titans team that ranks dead last in the NFL, averaging 70 yards a game.

QB Matt Hasselbeck has had issues since losing Kenny Britt for the season with a torn ACL. He is beginning to develop better chemistry with Jared Cook and LaVelle Hawkins and he has speedster Nate Washington to open up the field as well.

With a defense that is quietly 10th in points allowed at 21.1, expect the Titans to rebound after a rough first-half schedule.

25. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6)

The Jags' first half was doomed with horrific QB play, as evidenced by the fact they are dead last in passing yards (123.6).

Quietly the defense is having a playoff-caliber season. The unit is surrendering 20.4 points through eight games, eighth-best in the NFL.

As rookie QB Blaine Gabbert continues to get more comfortable in the pocket, expect the Jags to be a tough team to beat in the second half.
