WWE Survivor Series 2011: 10 Reasons Mark Henry Will Survive Big Show
Mark Henry superplexed The Big Show at last month's Vengeance pay-per-view, causing the ring to collapse and their match to end in a draw.
That solved nothing.
Henry is still the World heavyweight champion, Big Show is still the No. 1 contender and the two men will face off once again at Survivor Series.
Considering that Henry had beaten Randy Orton cleanly twice but couldn't do the same to Big Show, there are some who believe that Show will be the one to finally stop the World's Strongest Man from wreaking havoc on SmackDown.
But I wouldn't bet on it.
Here are 10 reasons why Henry will survive The Big Show at Survivor Series.
10. Mark Henry Holding onto the World Title Until WrestleMania?
1 of 10Anybody else get the feeling that Mark Henry could actually hold the World Heavyweight Championship all the way until WrestleMania 28?
I know that a title reign of that length is unheard of in today's WWE, but Henry has been booked like such an unstoppable monster that it's hard to imagine him losing the strap anytime soon.
So, why have him keep it until WrestleMania?
Well, maybe it's just me, but I saw some foreshadowing when Henry wrestled Daniel Bryan on last week's SmackDown.
Henry only won by disqualification, and the WWE seems to be teasing that Bryan cannot beat Henry. So, perhaps Henry holds onto the World title until the granddaddy of them all, and Bryan fulfills his promise and waits until then to prove to Henry that he can beat him.
It would be a true David vs. Goliath story and one that would put Bryan over in a huge way.
9. Brodus Clay
2 of 10Brodus Clay is set to make his re-debut on next week's episode of Raw, and judging by the way his return has been hyped, we can all see he's going to get a huge push right out of the gate.
At the start, Clay will probably destroy jobbers and lower-card workers. But you just know that WWE officials are salivating at the thought of putting him in a feud with another big man.
Someone like The Big Show.
If the WWE brass are serious about getting Clay over, then it's not going to do much for him to beat guys half his size. It will do a whole lot, however, if he takes out The Big Show.
And, being that Clay's rumored to be involved in top storylines upon his return, I could definitely see him making a splash in the feud between Big Show and Mark Henry.
8. Big Show Is a Raw Superstar
3 of 10I know that the WWE doesn't care about logic gaps or the lack of consistency in its storylines, but I do.
And The Big Show is a member of the Raw roster.
So, I don't quite understand how Show is competing for the World Heavyweight Championship when that belt is exclusive to SmackDown.
Ah, I guess I'm thinking too much, but the WWE would have a lot of explaining to do if a Raw star held SmackDown's World title.
Then again, it would probably never be addressed.
7. Big Show's World Title Drought
4 of 10Here are two dates to remember: never and 2002.
Never is the last time The Big Show held the World Heavyweight Championship in the WWE, and 2002 is the last time he held the WWE Championship.
It's been so long since Show's held a World title—ECW title not included—that I have to ask: Why now?
Whereas I can see why Mark Henry is getting a run with the strap (because he's never gotten one before), I can't see why on Earth you would put the title on Big Show this late in his career.
He doesn't need it to validate his career, and history says that he won't win it anyway.
6. Undertaker vs. Mark Henry?
5 of 10Here's my train of thought: Mark Henry has been damn-near unstoppable over the last six months or so, The Undertaker is widely considered to be the one man who can actually stop him and Taker is reportedly pitching ideas to return to WWE TV.
See where I'm going here?
If all the cards fall right and Taker does indeed return soon (possibly even at Survivor Series), then you have to think that Henry will retain his World Heavyweight Championship against The Big Show to set up a feud between the two.
I'm not necessarily a fan of seeing Taker vs. Henry again, but it does make a ton of sense at this point.
5. Their Feud Likely Will End at TLC
6 of 10Last month, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via SEScoops.com) reported that WWE officials had discussed a TLC match between The Big Show and Mark Henry at December's TLC pay-per-view.
Of course, this could mean that Show beats Henry at Survivor Series, and Henry uses his rematch clause at TLC.
But I think it's more likely that—much like at Vengeance—we see some short of shady or controversial finish at Survivor Series that keeps the belt on Henry, but leaves both men looking strong and allows them to wrestle one more time at TLC.
The creative team has invested a good bit of time into this feud, and I see the blowoff bout coming in a gimmick match, as is customary in the WWE.
4. The Lack of Challengers for the Big Show
7 of 10Let's say that The Big Show does indeed win the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series.
Now what? The dude would have almost no challengers left.
Wade Barrett? Already saw this, and it sucked.
Cody Rhodes? Same as Barrett.
I guess we could theoretically see a Christian/Big Show feud, which would probably be pretty good, but no one's going to be begging to see any World title feud involving Big Show and a guy he's already squashed in the past.
3. Mark Henry Doesn't Lose Cleanly
8 of 10I find it incredibly humorous that early in 2011 Mark Henry was a baby-face jobber who was booked like an absolute joke, and now, no one can beat him—much less beat him cleanly.
Seriously, does anyone remember the last time Henry took a clean pin?
I sure can't.
Since being moved to SmackDown in the 2011 WWE draft, Henry's been as dominant as ever and I'm having a hard time recalling when he last had his shoulders pinned to the mat for the one-two-three.
If someone knows, please help me out.
But, until I see Henry get pinned in clean fashion, I'm not going to bet on him losing the World Heavyweight Championship. After all, considering that Big Show is a face, it's highly unlikely that he's going to pin Henry in cheap or dirty fashion.
2. Big Show's Survivor Series Curse
9 of 10Survivor Series is not The Big Show's pay-per-view.
Since 2003, Show has compiled a 2-5 record at the show, and both of those wins came as a member of a traditional five-on-five team. His last win in a singles match at the PPV took place against Brock Lesnar in 2002.
Yeah, history isn't exactly on Show's side in this one.
His last two non-five-on-five matches at Survivor Series saw him lose to The Undertaker in a Casket Match (2008) and to The Undertaker once again in a Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship (2009).
1. Orton and Sheamus Are Just Biding Their Time
10 of 10The feud between Mark Henry and The Big Show has actually been better than I thought it would be, but it's obviously not good enough to go on as long as Randy Orton and Christian's rivalry went on earlier this year.
Why? Because, aside from the fact that he can't put on great matches anymore, Big Show is no longer one of the top two baby faces on SmackDown—those spots belong to Orton and Sheamus.
The Celtic Warrior hasn't been involved in the World Heavyweight Championship scene since early in the summer, and Orton—not counting that WHC match against Henry on SmackDown—hasn't been in the World title picture since he lost to Henry at Hell in a Cell.
I simply can't see that going on much longer.
Having neither Orton nor Sheamus involved in a World title feud on SmackDown is like having neither CM Punk nor John Cena involved in the WWE title picture on Raw.
It just doesn't feel right.
