WWE and Other Wrestling Content to Watch on Netflix Streaming When You're Bored
It's Wednesday, making it the exact middle of the work week and a day without pro wrestling. The day will drag on without the promise of seeing new developments of wrestling.
You'll be spending all morning dodging spoilers from SmackDown and trying to avoid knowing what will happen, until finally caving in sometime around Thursday. You even have to wait another day if you really have withdrawals and try to fill them with episodes of TNA Impact.
Instead of trying to find random videos of matches that happened 10 years ago or playing wrestling video games to entertain your wrestling fix, Netflix can help with that. The service is supported by millions of people, whether they order DVDs or watch instantly on any number of devices. Here are 10 different wrestling titles that you can find streaming on Netflix, no DVDs in the mail necessary, to enjoy today and help your day go faster.
Beyond the Mat
1 of 10Do you want to get a look at how the pro wrestling world really works? Watch Beyond the Mat, a very good documentary. The 1999 film followed a few different areas of the business. It showed the seasoned veteran in Mick Foley, portraying Mankind at this time, dealing with working on the road and having a young family at home. It also featured old veterans like Terry Funk and Jake Roberts, who are hanging onto the last bits of their careers.
It even showed an upstart Extreme Championship Wrestling preparing to go live with their first-ever pay-per-view. The documentary even shines a light on wrestling schools and the independent scene. It showed two guys from an independent promotion getting a try-out match with the WWF. There was even a scene with WWF superstar Droz being given his gimmick of Puke.
Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows
2 of 10I love this film. It was filmed in 1998 during Bret Hart's final year with the WWF. The film crew follows Hart around during his final title victory at SummerSlam 1997 and is there backstage on the night of the Montreal Screwjob. For anyone who needs enlightenment on what actually happened that night 14 years ago, this is the film for you. You should especially watch this one today because today is the 14-year anniversary of the Montreal Screwjob taking place.
The Very Best of WCW Monday Nitro
3 of 10WCW is still respected, even though it has been out of business for a decade. The brand gave us some great superstars and good moments to look back on fondly. This WWE-produced DVD recaps many of the best moments from WCW Monday Nitro and showed why the program beat out WWE's Monday Night RAW in the Monday Night Wars. WCW always had the average wrestling fan wondering what was going on with them, even while watching RAW during the WWF Attitude Era.
The Rise and Fall of WCW
4 of 10This additional WCW DVD is even more interesting than the previous one, only because it shows all of the low points in the company. WWE did not hold any punches back in telling the whole story of WCW's success and crumbling. It shows in-depth that the company did have a chance to make it, but that it was more about some of the bad decisions made which led to the ultimate fate. WCW is no longer around because of the reasons explained in this DVD.
WWE OMG!
5 of 10I watched this DVD on Netflix just a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it a lot. There were a lot of good moments deserving on this list of the 50 most shockin moments that made you want to scream "OMG". Out of all 50, I think only one can really be chosen as not belonging, which was John Cena's Double FU at WrestleMania. I won't bother spoiling the other 49 and that specific moment was relatively early on in the countdown, so as to not spoil any more. You may even see some moments on the list that you never knew existed or hadn't seen in years.
Besides, the song in between clips is so catchy that it is stuck in my head just thinking about it.
The True Story of WrestleMania
6 of 10Any WWE fan wants to know The True Story of WrestleMania, where Vince McMahon and so many others were interviewed for insight in how it is to put together the incredible spectacle of WrestleMania. There is so much to tell, but the DVD moves along pretty well and has a good enough pace with a lot of interesting facts. You can almost look into the soul of McMahon from that time and begin to see what he believed was the big picture.
The Big Show: A Giant's World
7 of 10Big Show has had such an interesting life and his DVD is just as interesting. From his upbringing and looking up to a guy like Andre the Giant, Paul Wight was meant to be a pro wrestler. His size did mean that there were some obstacles to go through in upbringing, but Wight became a popular superstar and one that will go down as one of the more unsung heroes of our generation. He was so athletic for a big man in his prime that there will never be another Big Show.
Breaking the Code: Behind the Walls of Chris Jericho
8 of 10Not only do I see this DVD on my Netflix queue, but I actually own a copy of it. The Chris Jericho DVD chronicles his entire career, even including matches in Smoky Mountain Wrestling, Japan, ECW, WCW and WWE, against a big number of stars. Jericho also tells some funny stories of origins for some of his moves and his ring name. The extras, which may not be featured on the Netflix copy, are worth the price alone to watch this DVD.
Macho Madness: The Randy Savage Ultimate Collection
9 of 10It became all the more sad to look back at just a few months ago. Randy Savage's is arguably as big as mostly anyone else in WWE history. His personality was infectious, while his voice and attire were unique. Let's not even talk about how great of a match Savage could put on with his opponents. Randy Savage was a total package back in the 1980s and will be remembered as a man with one heck of a legacy to leave behind.
Bobby
10 of 10Need a pick-me-up on a Wednesday? Bobby "The Brain" Heenan's DVD titled after his name will do the trick. Heenan was as funny and light on his feet as they come. Heenan was a great wrestling manager and an even better commentator, if that is possible. It also hits on the scary health risks that Heenan has dealt with in recent years, sidelining him from the squared circle.
What's your favorite wrestling DVD, whether it is on Netflix instantly streaming, attainable through the mail, or no reachable via Netflix?
