Penn State Scandal: Nittany Lions Torched Chances of Landing Urban Meyer
Urban Meyer would have been the perfect successor to Joe Paterno, but given the state of the Penn State program, Meyer would be absolutely crazy to accept the job.
There have been murmurs that Meyer and the Nittany Lions shared a mutual interest—then again, that was before the Jerry Sandusky molestation scandal surfaced.
Now, it's not just filling Joe Pa's shoes that Meyer would have to deal with; he's got to fix the Penn State brand, one that was unblemished when Meyer was supposedly interested in the job.
Five-star recruit Noah Spence tweeted that he had been turned off by Penn State's scandal, and whether other recruits take to social media or not, he's not alone.
With a recruiting mess, a program in transition and the team being directly associated with unspeakable acts, why would Meyer go to Penn State?
Meyer is the most highly sought after college coach in the country. Right now, he's broadcasting and he would be crazy to give up that gig for anything less than the perfect situation.
The Penn State job seemed like the ideal coaching job, but now it looks like nothing more than hardship and headache.
In fact, he may inevitably go the other direction. He's from Ohio and some have speculated that the Ohio State job would be the perfect fit for Meyer.
They have a scandal of their own, but all of a sudden free tattoos and getting paid to autograph memorabilia look trivial next to the child molestation allegations.
Like so many Nittany Lions recruits, Meyer is going to scratch Penn State off his list.
