Bears vs Eagles: Why Michael Vick Will Dominate on Monday Night

Ryan PhillipsNov 7, 2011

In his career against the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is 0-3 as a starter. In five total games, he has a 76.2 passer rating, with just 187 rushing yards, no touchdowns, three interceptions and has been sacked 15 times. Expect that trend to change tonight.

Vick and the Eagles have rolled off two straight wins sandwiched around their Week 7 bye, and they have finally started looking like the team everyone thought they were before the season.

Against the Dallas Cowboys last week, Vick completed 21-of-28 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 50 yards on seven carries. His quarterback rating of 129.9 in that game was a season-high for the 31-year-old quarterback.

Tonight, the Eagles bring their top-ranked offense (449.3 yards per game) to Chicago to face the league's 25th-ranked defense (380.6 yards per game). Vick leads a unit that boasts the NFL's best rushing attack (averaging 179.9 yards per game) and ninth-ranked passing attack (269.4 yards per game). That's bad news for a Bears defense that has been struggling.

Chicago will have a tough time shadowing Vick while trying to shut down his biggest weapons. Both Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson should give the Bears' secondary fits, while LeSean McCoy is leading the NFL in rushing yards per game with 107.7 and is also a threat in the passing game.

While the Bears have done well against Vick in the past, this is not they same ferocious defense they had back then.

Chicago has won two straight and is coming off its bye week, but I don't expect Lovie Smith's team to be able to keep up with Vick and his weapons. I expect the versatile quarterback to have a big game tonight.
