BCS Rankings: Week 11 Standings Prove Big Ten Is Weaker Than Ever
The Week 11 BCS rankings were just released and their disrespect for the Big Ten proves just how bad the conference is this year.
Much like Big Ten basketball, Big Ten football is painful on the eyes. The conference rarely features elite passing attacks like the Pac 12 or Big 12, and they don't have the explosive running backs and freakish defenders like the SEC.
But while the conference is never sexy, there's usually at least one elite team in the bunch.
This season, that is not the case.
It seems like every week the conference's best teams are getting upset by weak opponents or blown out by good ones.
The highest ranked Big Ten team right now is No. 12 Penn State (8-1), and the Nitanny Lions haven't exactly been impressive. They have yet to defeat a ranked team and beat lowly Temple, Indiana and Purdue by just 15 points combined.
Next highest is No. 17 Michigan State. The Spartans followed the most exciting win of the season by getting destroyed by Nebraska and barely surviving against unheralded Minnesota.
Wisconsin is sitting at No. 18 and Nebraska is 19th. Both have lost to unranked teams in the past two weeks.
And rounding out the top 25 Big Ten teams is Michigan. The Wolverines never led against Iowa on Saturday, but had four chances to tie the game from the Hawkeyes' 3-yard line. They failed four straight times.
Without a dominant team or two to pick up the slack, the Big Ten is looking a bit pathetic right now.
