Michigan vs. Iowa Video: Did Referees Screw Wolverines out of Game-Tying TD?
The 13th-ranked Michigan Wolverines didn’t deserve to win the game against the Iowa Hawkeyes, but they almost pulled one out anyway.
With just seconds left in the game and the Wolverines down 24-16, Michigan sat just yards away from scoring a touchdown that could send the game into overtime.
The game was on the line for the Wolverines and they decided to try and pass their way for a TD with dual-threat quarterback Denard Robinson under center.
Robinson is known more for his elusive feet than his needle-threading accuracy, but a beautiful pass on second-and-goal gave his receiver a great opportunity to make the play.
The receiver clearly comes down with the ball, but the question was whether or not he came down with the ball in bounds.
Junior Hemingway is the receiver that made the catch, and his one-handed attempt can only be described as putting the team on his back.
While it’s obvious that he gets his knee down in the endzone, the referees on the field called the play incomplete.
Just when Michigan though all was lost, the booth decided to review it as well. Justice was thought to be served until those officials too got it wrong.
The Wolverines went on to garner no points on two more TD attempts; losing the game.
Michigan fans have to feel like the outcome would’ve been different if that call was made correctly.
