Kevin Kolb Injury: Struggling Arizona Cardinals Will Worsen Without Kolb
The nightmare rolls on for the Arizona Cardinals.
Watching the Cardinals lose six straight games, with QB Kevin Kolb failing to improve in any of them, it’s clear Arizona overpaid to get him from Philadelphia.
Yet when you remember that backup John Skelton is about 100 times worse, Kolb doesn’t seem so bad. That’s why this tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter is so devastating:

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Uh-oh.
This is a catastrophe for the Cards—especially when you consider Skelton’s numbers from 2010.
He showed us utterly nothing last season, throwing for 662 yards, two TDs and two INTs along with two fumbles and a completion percentage of 47 percent in five games.
Kolb hasn’t been great this season—throwing for 1,706 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions with six lost fumbles and a 56.8 completion percentage—but he is much better than Skelton. At least he can complete a pass of more than 15 yards.
You may be wondering why a measly toe injury is such a problem. Well, you’re not alone. Kolb himself is asking the same question:
""I remember Deion Sanders was the first one I ever saw that had 'turf toe,' and I was thinking the same thing as a fan: 'What? Why is (he) out for two weeks with a turf toe?'" Kolb said. "Then you get one and realize it's a little more painful than it comes across as."
"
While coach Ken Whisenhunt has told reporters the injury has “come a long way” in the past two days, it sounds as if Kolb will be sitting on the bench in a very winnable home game against the St. Louis Rams.
With a seventh consecutive loss hanging in the balance, everything falls on running back Beanie Wells and his frail body. If he can run wild on the horrific Rams defense, maybe he can relieve some of the pressure on Skelton.
That’s a huge maybe, and I don’t think Skelton can even handle the game manager role.
This is a disaster for Arizona.
Somewhere Larry Fitzgerald is shaking his head in disgust, wondering why he jumped the gun on signing a long-term extension with this franchise.
