7 WWE Tag Teams That Need To Be Exploited

Nathan GieseNov 3, 2011

This just in: Evan Bourne has been suspended from the WWE for 30 days via a failed wellness violation.

OK, so maybe it's not breaking news or anything, but it's extremely noteworthy.

As part of Air Boom alongside Kofi Kingston, Bourne was part of the exciting new tag team that was going to help revitalize what otherwise is considered a dead division.  Together, Air Boom's high-flying display inside the ring made for scintillating matches, something we haven't seen in some time in the tag team ranks.

Now that Bourne has been suspended, it seems likely that he will be punished in some way, other than just the suspension.

Maybe this will cost him and Kofi Kingston the tag team titles in the near future.

What comes of this remains to be seen, but something that needs to come of these events is new, fresh tag teams to take the place of Air Boom while Evan is away.

There are three legitimate tag teams right now in the WWE, if you count Air Boom as champions, that the company has decided to exploit in recent months.

Evan Bourne being out could lead to a title change, but to whom?

Here are some tag teams that should get their chance at running with the gold.

Alex Riley and John Morrison

1 of 7

Obviously, this team is made only if the rumors of Morrison's demise in the company are merely rumors.

Riley became a huge hit once he cut ties with his mentor, The Miz.  He was an immediate fan favorite.  Combining his natural mic abilities with his growing in-ring presence, Riley is the total package waiting to break through.

We all know about Morrison's disturbing trend of losing so I won't go into detail about that. If Morrison is going to stick around, putting him in a tag team makes perfect sense considering he likely won't get the push to the main-event level again in his career.

Pairing these two together not only gives both of them something to do, it could also make them relevant once again.  These two had promising careers at one point or another and should not be sitting on the sidelines as much as they are right now.

Jack Swagger and Drew McIntyre

2 of 7

These two have teamed up in the past and actually looked like they could have some good chemistry as partners if given the chance.

They could easily go by the name Sinister Swagger and pull it off beautifully.

Swagger is currently partners with Dolph Ziggler, but it's just a matter of time until Ziggler is elevated to the main-event scene, making Swagger obsolete.

McIntyre has rarely been used lately; if anything he's there to job.

Make McIntyre the latest addition to Vickie's stable of young stallions and let the young bloods go to work.

The Usos

3 of 7

Come on.  How long do these guys have to keep proving they are the only legitimate tag team and still not be given their time to shine?

It's getting a little annoying how sparingly The Usos are used in the tag team scene.  They are used as extras for six-man tag team matches and little else.

The only times they have been given chances at the tag team gold in recent memory has been when there are more than one team involved in the contest.

Give the Usos a chance for crying out loud.

Mason Ryan and Zack Ryder

4 of 7

It would appear that either one of these guys will be the next in line for the United States Championship—my money is on Ryder—but until then, they need to unite as one.

Pairing Ryan and Ryder together has been teased a few times lately, but nothing has come to reality.

Ryder has the fanbase that could carry the team's popularity while Ryan bring the big, brute factor that an intimidating tag team needs.

Ryan has turned face but hasn't really done anything with it yet.  Give the big man a shot at tag team action and let's see if Batista 2.0 has what it takes.

Sin Cara and Hunico

5 of 7

Oh, the story behind these two has been told and retold to death.  It's time to let these two either go their separate ways or unite as a team and shake up the tag team division.

There really is no reason to have Sin Cara battling singles competition right now because he is still pretty raw in the ring.  Hunico has been unmasked and now looks to exact even more revenge on his adversary.

Why keep putting these two in matches that have yet to get the crowd excited even a little bit?

Honestly, right now I don't see a point to having these two in the business together.  They should have killed the angle after the unmasking and made their decision on which one they were going to keep.  Instead, were being tortured with more of the same garbage.

At least make these guys a tag team and let them rival Air Boom for the most high-flying team in the business.

Heath Slater and Curt Hawkins

6 of 7

I'll be the first to admit that I don't really think either one of these guys should have jobs, but since they do why not make them a punk rock tag team?

Heath Slater is one of those guys that makes you want to hate him with his arrogant smile and red hair.  Curt Hawkins has that natural cockiness that makes you want to slap him upside the head.

Hawkins may be a tag team with Tyler Reks right now, but obviously that means next to nothing since they are only featured on Superstars.

Slater, on the other hand, seems to get at least some air time over on SmackDown, so pairing him with Hawkins may not be the worst thing in the world.

Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett

7 of 7

Make no mistake about it, these two should absolutely be in the main-event scene on SmackDown.

Wade Barrett should have never left the main-event scene when he transferred over to SmackDown and Cody Rhodes is well on his way to possibly becoming one of the next big stars in the business.

This past Monday on Raw, Rhodes and Barrett team up to take on Air Boom—a match which they successfully competed in, gaining the clean victory.

Rhodes may be the Intercontinental champion, but it is no secret that someone holding a mid-card belt that appears to be on the rise is a million times more likely to hold more than one belt at a time.  The Miz did it, Ziggler almost did and Chris Jericho has done it, just to name a few.

Barrett is finally starting to become relevant again now that he is partnering up with some of the more formidable stars ever since the walkout angle has been played.

Pairing these two together to create a monster tag team would be great for both men's careers.

Their team doesn't need to stay together for very long, just long enough to make both men even more fierce than they already are.
