WWE Survivor Series 2011: 10 Things You Should NOT Expect to See at the PPV
Survivor Series is only about two and a half weeks away, and by the looks of things, it has the potential to be a great pay-per-view.
But the keyword here is potential because there's also a good chance that many of the things you want to see happen won't.
Then again, there are probably some things that you don't want to see happen that won't. So, I guess you gotta take the good with the bad.
WWE does have a great opportunity to put on one heck of a show in Madison Square Garden, however, it's all about the booking.
Will the creative team put on a predictable show, or will they surprise us?
Let's find out.
Here are 10 things you should NOT expect to see at this year's Survivor Series.
WARNING: SLIDES NO. 7 AND NO. 6 CONTAIN SPOILERS.
10. A Watchable Divas Match
1 of 10This one shouldn't come as a shocker.
Less than a month after Eve became the No. 1 contender for Beth Phoenix's Divas Championship and lost to her at Vengeance, she became the No. 1 contender again and presumably will face one-half of the Sisters of Salvation in some sort of match at Survivor Series.
Ugh. Really?
If it's a singles match again, it will be bad enough. But if it's a five-on-five match, it may wind up being one of the worst matches we've seen in quite some time.
I'm honestly not sure WWE even has enough Divas to do that, though, so let's hope it's a straight up singles match that will be unwatchable rather than a completely unbearable tag team match.
9. Jim Ross Announcing
2 of 10Many of us have speculated that the upcoming "Michael Cole Challenge" will lead to Jim Ross coming back to the announce table and Cole transitioning into a role as a manager, or perhaps even as the Raw general manager.
Nah. I don't think so.
It's become painfully evident that Vince McMahon's sole purpose for putting Good Old J.R. on TV is to humiliate him. Vince's goal is not to let him do what he's the best ever at: announcing.
It looks like Cole will defeat Ross in whatever his challenge is, Ross will be embarrassed once again on national television, he'll be written off of TV for good and McMahon will think it's hilarious.
It's not funny at all, but it's probably what's going to happen.
8. Triple H vs. Kevin Nash in a Regular Singles Match
3 of 10Given that Triple H is currently out with a "fractured vertebrae," there's a chance that we may not see any type of match between he and Kevin Nash at Survivor Series at all.
But WWE has invested way too much time into this storyline between these two to leave them completely off one of the biggest pay-per-views of the year.
As a result, I think we'll see Triple H vs. Nash in some sort of gimmick match that will hide both Triple H's "injuries" and Nash's inability at his age to put on a decent wrestling match.
I guess that's fine because a brawl between these two would probably be better anyway.
7. Daniel Bryan Cashing in
4 of 10If you check out the SPOILERS for this Friday's Smackdown, you'll see that the WWE teased that Daniel Bryan would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Mark Henry.
Don't worry, though. That's all it was, a tease.
Now, I originally speculated that it could be foreshadowing to Bryan cashing in at Survivor Series. However, another reader here on B/R pointed out how bad that would look for Bryan, since he guaranteed that he would wait until WrestleMania to do so.
I agree with him now.
Bryan won't cash in because it'll make him look like a cowardly babyface, which is never a good idea.
6. Very Many Clean Finishes
5 of 10Survivor Series is setting up to be a pay-per-view that features little to no clean finishes.
Big Show and Mark Henry didn't have a clean finish the last time they faced off. Considering that Show just pinned Alberto Del Rio clean, I can't imagine that there won't be some sort of shady finish to their match at Survivor Series to make sure both guys are protected.
Also, as pointed out, Del Rio just lost clean to Big Show. He didn't beat John Cena clean at Vengeance or CM Punk clean at Hell in a Cell.
Then, in the presumed five-on-five match (or two), there are so many elements to consider that it's hard to picture a heel team winning clean or at least not getting involved in the finish of the match in some way.
Plus, it's likely that The Rock will screw over John Cena or vice versa in their match. Or perhaps The Miz and/or R-Truth cheats to get the victory.
Maybe I'm being a bit pessimistic here, but I just don't see more than one match actually ending with a clean finisher followed by a pin.
5. The Undertaker
6 of 10I know that most of the people who are reading this are hoping that The Undertaker returns for one final run before hanging up the boots for good and that he does so at Survivor Series.
But the latest report on his injury status isn't a great sign that that will happen.
"As for the Undertaker, there are no plans for him to return to television in the immediate future. At this point, WWE officials are hoping he’ll be healthy enough in time to wrestle at WrestleMania 28 next April.
"
It looks like The Undertaker probably won't be back until WrestleMania, which could very well be the last time we see the Phenom perform in a WWE ring.
4. A Victory for The Miz and R-Truth
7 of 10You know, I suppose we could see the dissension between The Rock and John Cena wind up costing them their match against The Miz and R-Truth.
But this is The Rock and Cena we're talking about, two of the greatest WWE superstars of all time.
We obviously know that Cena hardly ever takes a clean pin and I highly doubt that The Rock agreed to come back to do that either. Plus, Cena managed to single-handedly destroy both Miz and Truth on Monday's Raw in a complete "WTF?" moment.
If Cena can take care of those two on his own, then what's going to happen when he teams with The Rock?
My guess is that The Rock and Cena will absolutely destroy them.
3. CM Punk Winning the WWE Championship
8 of 10Our boy CM Punk is back in the WWE Championship scene, and given the way the company passes that title around like a cheap hooker, many of us are banking on Punk beating Alberto Del Rio for the strap at Survivor Series.
I'm not doing that, though.
John Cena will likely be busy with R-Truth and The Miz for the foreseeable future, and Triple H is too worried about Kevin Nash. So, if Del Rio were to beat Punk clean at Survivor Series, then that would leave him with essentially no one to feud with next.
Thus, the likeliest outcomes of this bout are that Punk wins by DQ, or Del Rio wins with a dirty finish. Then, Punk will wind up getting another match with Del Rio at TLC in December.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, though, because maybe we can actually see Del Rio hold onto the title for more than a month and have a good lengthy feud with Punk.
2. Any Title Changes
9 of 10The WWE and World Heavyweight Championships will definitely be defended at Survivor Series, but outside of those two, there's a chance that no other titles are on the line at the pay-per-view.
One half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, Evan Bourne, is currently suspended, United States Champion Dolph Ziggler and Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes will likely be involved in five-on-five matches and Beth Phoenix's reign as Divas Champion isn't ready to end yet.
So, there may just be two title matches at Survivor Series, and I'm expecting both world champions to retain.
Not much left up to the imagination, huh?
1. A John Cena Heel Turn
10 of 10I've been guilty of saying on several occasions that John Cena's feud with The Rock is the perfect time to turn him heel.
But, deep down, I know that's probably not going to happen.
Cena needs a heel turn or at least a gimmick tweak, perhaps more badly than any wrestler currently in WWE. But he makes the company so much money that he's basically untouchable until four or five stars are selling more merchandise than he is.
Sadly for us, though, that day might not come until three-plus years from now.
Folks, babyface "Super Cena" is here to stay.
