UFC: Anderson Silva to Fight for 6 or 7 Years; Believes Sonnen Should Be Cut
A few weeks ago, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva's manager Ed Soares stated that he thought that Silva would retire from fighting after he finishes the last four fights on his contract.
Silva, 36, has proven so far that age is only a number, as his fight game continues to improve, but there is not much left for him to accomplish in his fight career and, according to Soares, he had no interest in renewing his contract with the UFC.
When it was assumed that the end of Silva's career was on the horizon, talks of super fights between Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones were rumored even more as the UFC was running out of time before they lost an opportunity for a huge payday.
However, Silva's retirement plans will be put on hold as "The Spider" stated today that he plans on fighting for six or seven more years, according to ESPN.com,
"I'll fight for another six or seven years and then I'll stop," Silva said.
"I stopped to think about it and I'll postpone my retirement for a little longer. Then I'll think about TV."
Now the question remains as to who the champion will face next. Many have said that his next fight should be a rematch with contender Chael Sonnen.
When the two met back in August of 2010, Sonnen controlled Silva until he was caught in an arm triangle with less than two minutes left in the fight.
Afterwards, it was revealed that Sonnen had failed a post-fight drug test as he had high levels of testosterone, which led to a suspension from the California State Athletic Commission.
Silva stated that because he cheated, Sonnen not only does not deserve a rematch for the title, but deserves to be kicked out of the UFC all-together,
"He doesn't deserve to fight me. The most important thing he didn't do: defeating me," Silva said. "He was caught in the drug test, which was the worse.
"I believe he shouldn't be on the sport, because he has no emotional control. While trying to provoke me, he makes the sport looks bad. He made bad comments, offended me and my wife."
Sonnen has continually taunted Silva in an attempt to earn a rematch, but it seems that the champion doesn't plan on giving in any time soon.
