The Most Explosive Players in College Football Today

Bill RobbinsOct 31, 2011

Each week, there are many players in college football that catch our eye because of their level of explosiveness that they play with on the field.

For a player to be explosive, they have to be fast, strong and capable of pulling off a big play at any moment in a game.

Here are the most explosive players in college football today.

Honorable Mention

1 of 11

WR Sammy Watkins, Clemson

RB Henry Josey, Missouri

RB Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina

QB Russell Wilson, Wisconsin

WR Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina

2 of 11

It's hard to discount what this guy has meant for the Gamecocks offense over the last one-plus seasons.

Jeffery had nearly 2,000 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns during that time as well.

He has great speed for a guy his size at 6'4", and has the explosiveness to tear and opposing defense apart when he is on his game.

WR Michael Floyd, Notre Dame

3 of 11

Floyd is one of the most talented receivers to ever play for the Fighting Irish.

He's amassed over 3,300 receiving yards and 33 touchdown in his four years with Notre Dame, making it all look relatively easy out there.

His 6'3" frame and speed should give him a good chance to be a solid player at the next level.

CB Tyrann Mathieu, LSU

4 of 11

This guy is very exciting to watch each game because of his explosiveness in the defensive backfield.

The LSU star is already getting rave reviews for how tenacious he plays at his cornerback position.

He's already racked up 43 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions as the most talented player on one of the nation's best defenses.

LB Vontaze Burfict, Arizona State

5 of 11

If you are on offense, the last thing that you want to see is this guy coming at you full speed.

Burfict is known as one of the hardest hitting linebackers in the country and has speed that you can't teach at the inside linebacker position.

He's already drawn strong comparisons to current Ravens All-Pro LB Ray Lewis.

RB LaMichael James, Oregon

6 of 11

James would be so much more explosive right now if it wasn't for his injury that he suffered a few weeks back.

However, he is still one of the most exciting players in the country due to the fact that he has rushed for over 1,500 yards in each of his past two seasons, and has also rushed for over 200-plus yards three times in 2011.

What makes him an elite RB is his blazing speed and his ability to break tackle after tackle in each game.

QB Robert Griffin III, Baylor

7 of 11

Robert Griffin III is the engine that makes the Baylor offense go each week.

RG III has also shown this season that he is a much better pocket passer than his critics have said in the past.

Even though he has picked up 322 yards on the ground, he has an explosive arm and has the dual-threat ability to beat you with a long bomb or a big run in heartbeat.

QB Denard Robinson, Michigan

8 of 11

Robinson can be very electrifying and explosive any time he has the ball in his hands.

The Michigan starting QB has already rushed for over 2,800 yards in his three-year career with the team.

His passing ability makes him even more explosive, as he and Baylor's Robert Griffin III are in a class by themselves as far as quarterbacks who can both run and pass the ball efficiently.

WR Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma

9 of 11

Broyles is one of the best wideouts that you will ever see play in a Oklahoma uniform.

He's already leads the NCAA in career receiving yards with 4,499 and also has two catches of 75-plus yards during his four years at OU.

He can take the top off of a defense and is someone that change the outcome of a game in the blink of an eye.

WR Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State

10 of 11

Like another member of this list, Ryan Broyles, Blackmon is one of the best receivers in the history of his school's football program as well.

The Ardmore, Okla. native had nearly 1,800 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns last season, and has already added on 834 yards and 10 touchdowns so far in 2011.

He is built like former Oklahoma State star Dez Bryant, but many believe that he is even better than the current Dallas Cowboys starting receiver.

RB Trent Richardson, Alabama

11 of 11

Trent Richardson might just be the most explosive player in the nation.

If you don't believe me, watch this video of a touchdown he had against Ole Miss earlier this season.

He is definitely a favorite to win the Heisman this year, with his 989 rushing yards and 18 total touchdowns through just eight games this season.
