WWE: Why Did Triple H Leave Scott Hall's Name out Last Week on Monday Night Raw?

Tom ClarkOct 31, 2011

You caught it, right?

Last week on Monday Night Raw, as Triple H named off his best friends in the business, the guys in the Kliq, one name was missed.

Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Sean Waltman and, well, that was it.
But one man was left out, one man who was the swagger of the group, the one who made it fun, for the fans and for the guys involved.

Scott Hall.

When it happened, rumblings amongst the crowd could be heard, as some fans began to say his name.  Triple H kept talking, however, not allowing the background noise to interfere with his little walk down memory lane.

So, why was Scott’s name left out?

Don’t misunderstand me here—this is not an effort to put forth any sort of wacky conspiracy theory; the business is already overrun with them.  Nor do I feel that it was done with malicious intent on Hunter’s part.

It wasn’t, right?

We’re all aware of Scott’s problems, his train wreck of a life thus far has been well documented for the whole world to see.

So well documented that anyone who watched ESPN’s E60 recently got some incredible insight into Hall’s tortured soul, and the family that has been wrecked in the process.

Most of us who follow the sport, and know about Scott, knew that what we were going to see was not going to be pretty.  But I have to say, a lot of it still came as a shock.

The man has been to rehab 10 times, and by his own admission, he can’t even drive a car anymore because he knows that he will drive drunk.  According to Stephanie McMahon, WWE has spent more than six figures on treatment to help Hall get better.

Unreal.

As I watched it, I did not feel bad for Scott.  He’s a grown man, making his own decisions, a guy  who’s had so many people trying to help him over the years that for him to still be in bad shape is just unacceptable.

I felt bad for the family that he has put through hell.  A lot of people go through life alone, for whatever reason, but these people love and care about Scott, yet they have been pushed aside as if they were never there.  My heart goes out to them.

I watched, saddened, angered and shaking my head in disgust at some parts.  Yes, I was surprised by some of the things that were said and the facts that were presented by Scott and his family.

And as I watched Raw, listening to Hunter’s promo, I was surprised again, as there was no mention of Scott Hall.

Was there a reason why Triple H left Scott out?  Was he told to?  Or, was it just a mistake?

Or, maybe, just maybe, did he choose to not utter the name of The Bad Guy because he felt that it would bring negative attention to a company that is constantly trying to avoid it?

Yeah, I know, back to the conspiracy theories.

But we’re all adults here, and as fans we all know what that company is capable of.  Would it really surprise you to learn that Scott’s public image has now become an embarrassment to WWE?

Of course, if that is indeed the case, then why did WWE agree to be a part of the documentary in the first place?  Was it out of genuine concern for Scott, or was something else at work?  Were they perhaps wanting to put their own spin on the situation, to ensure that they were portrayed in a positive light?

If that’s true, then honestly, who can blame them?  The man has destroyed himself, and he cannot stay out of the press.  Forget the downward spiral, he’s way past that.  He’s at the very bottom, and whenever a pro wrestler is in a situation such as this, the media has a field day with it, as it becomes an indictment on the business as a whole.

Oh, professional wrestling did that to him.  Yeah, of course it did.

I am no fan of Eric Bischoff.  Never have been.  But what he said is true, and I cannot deny it.  Wrestling is not killing Scott Hall.  Scott Hall is killing Scott Hall.

So, did Triple H intentionally leave Hall’s name out of his promo?  And if so, does it really matter? After all, it was one night, one rant, it’s not necessarily a sign that Hunter has given up on his friend and doesn’t want to be associated with him anymore.

In fact, it may not mean anything.  Or, it could mean everything.  I suppose in the end, like so many other topics in the business that we love, it’s all open for debate.
