Fantasy Football Week 8: Why Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd Are Must-Sit WRs

David DanielsOct 30, 2011

Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd will be shut down on Monday night by the only consistent part of the Kansas City Chiefs entire team: their cornerback play.

Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr make up one of the NFL’s best cornerback tandems.  Jackson and Floyd will be forced to match up against the Chiefs duo of corners, and the San Diego Chargers WRs should just stay on your bench.

Flowers and Carr have combined for six interceptions this season.  Six in just six games is an incredible pace, but three of those came last week against the Oakland Raiders, so they’re entering the contest with a ton of momentum.  Unsurprisingly, opposing wide receivers haven’t fared well against Flowers and Carr this season.

Only one wide out all season long has recorded over 100 yards receiving against Kansas City’s defense.  That one receiver was Pierre Garcon, but the number of big-name targets they’ve slowed down this season far exceed the lone Garcon.  They held Steve Johnson to 66 yards, Calvin Johnson to 29 yards (even though he did have two touchdowns), Percy Harvin to 42 and Reggie Wayne to 77.

In the Chiefs' first meeting with the Chargers, Jackson only caught five receptions for 63 yards, while Floyd brought down just two for 28 and neither got into the end zone.  If anything, Kansas City will play even better their second time around.  The team is on a three-game winning streak; they were winless when they lost to San Diego.

Kansas City has the seventh-ranked rushing attack and 25th ranked run defense.  That means each team will be able to have success running the football, which will translate to Jackson and Floyd having even less opportunities in the passing game.

Philip Rivers threw an interception to Flowers in the two squads' Week 4 matchup.  He knows how talented these Chiefs corners are and will look to target his backs and tight ends more often.

If you’re losing your fantasy football game heading into Monday night with Jackson or Floyd as your only hope to pull ahead, you’ve already lost.
